  • What's your current focus?

What's your current focus with your preps? Building ammo stocks back up after they got expensive so you'll have training ammo later? Getting your food storage squared away? Rounding out your water plan?

I've been doing some clearing of property lines and some additional fencing. It's a slow, tedious process slowed down further by the monsoon we've been having, work and real life obligations. Still, 30 minutes here, an hour there and I've seen some decent progress. Like all projects we are attacking it a little at a time financially. When their is some extra cash, we buy and stockpile more fencing, fence posts, cut telephone poles, etc. When money is tight, we move ahead of where we were working and clear, cut trees up for firewood and in general spend more on "sweat equity." It keeps the projects moving forward even through times when money is slightly tighter.

Investments in retreat infrastructure like roads, fencing, etc. pay off over the long term.

What's your current focus with your preps?

Our current focus is to get our house ready to put on the market next February and get it sold. In the meantime, we are looking for some acreage that is a little further out but still close enough for my dh to commute to work and for us to get our daughter to her school. Our son is the only one who will change schools. Our objective is to build a house that is low tech, low maintenance and fits our specific needs. Plus to have some gardens, fruit trees, berries, chickens, etc.

LOL, the downside to preparedness is when you have to move it all. We have already rented a storage unit, but I do not want to put any of our food storage in there just yet as it is too warm, but as soon as the weather cools off it will have to be moved there. I am just hoping and praying that our house sells quickly.

I will keep you all posted as to how things progress.

Attempting to continue training in all possible areas for the next year. Major purchases are temporarily off until some things happen. I will be making a move next spring.
Mid to short term I'm hoping to find more components to reload and build up more stock. I'm going to restart some food stuff. I'm also looking to make the black rifle camo, just haven't decided exactly what I want to do yet.
Short term is preparing for hunting season for meat gathering and skill building.

Currently trying to get caught up with life as we know it for lack of a better term. My preps have not gotten any better over the last bit, but they haven't gotten any worse either so I'm breaking even.

Been doing a little more gunsmithing lately and learning more along those lines. Currently been trying to get a good wood stockpile going by helping a friend clear out trees from the spring tornadoes. And working on getting the property back in order. Fall plans are getting back into woodworking and carpentry as well as getting various projects done around the property

My focus is getting my focus back! Murphy came to visit and he wouldn't leave for a while and have been dealing with real life finances and drama. Everything took a back seat while over coming obstacles.

-Tuning up my primary vehicle and then either dumping and getting another secondary, or totally rebuilding the one I have.
-Organizing and inventorying my off site cache.
-Working out, running and building my knee up from an injury. No way I could have even walked a half quarter mile with my pack a month ago.
-Hunting coming up and training with other LMI's on skill building.

Getting ready to move into a new house. First place I will own that has a sump pump. Scoping out what it will take to get a battery bank setup to run it. My parents have a sump pump and when the power goes out during a storm about once every 8 years, it is all hands on deck to see if we had to bail it out (I happened to be there both times it happened). Don't want to be in that boat. After the battery bank is set up, need to get the food reserve built back up after the move.

We're fixing up the house, to make it more marketable for sale, perhaps next year... I'd like to get out of town a ways, with enough land for a much larger garden, and space to put up a decent solar panel array. Maybe even a small windmill.

Also, where we're at now, if SHTF, the inner city mobs would be out here in about 20 minutes...

                  food production.
been getting our garden ready to be planted here soon and this time it'll be planned what we produce vs " hey this looks yummy.. " lol.
just starting to get eggs on a daily basis (3-5 eggs) per day,,the birds arent in full swing yet.
lot of my focus went out the door this last year, i mean we did make a big lifestyle change by moving etc, but lot of the "projects" got back burnered for a bit because we hadnt stopped(got burned out you could say), im trying to shed some lbs ( 5lbs so far in 6 days) and cut back on my one vice (drinking) so far so good, time will tell.
once weather clears up (not raining each day or 700f) it'll be trail/woods time fir me and the dog.
lot of our food prep has went from lts/self packed to canning/pickling.so its swapped one for another.
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

Lost focus for the past few months. Had a couple of deaths in the family and home projects that took up a lot of time. The summer was gone before I even knew it. Starting to get some plans laid out in my mind on what I am going to focus on in the coming months.

                    HAM license
get my stuff more organized with shelves and what not
get back to the first aid training
learn some skills - making knives etc.
practice some skills - fire starting etc.

focusing on meeting people who are like minded. We are doing well on most preps, now it's just trying to meet likeminded people to join up with incase of an event. We have 8 now, but it's not near enough to do everything the farm requires. So my list looks something like this.

                      Ham License
                      Networking/meeting new people
Medical training (Looking at SOLO wilderness FR course.)
making another water source for BOL. Has wells and rivers, but want to do a rain catchment as well.

Our current focus is on our chickens and our garden. We got 4 hens at Easter and they are just starting to lay now, so it's been interesting and fun to watch them grow. And our garden is producing like crazy this year. I've got more zucchini and cucumbers than I know what to do with, and now our eggplant is really coming in. So it's been a lot of figuring out how to preserve the extra veggies. My next focus HAS to be getting a better inventory of what we have stored and what holes we need to fill.

                          1. Studying for my technicians HAM license.

                          2. Slowly adding food stocks and gear alternating every other week... food stores one week, gear the next.

Looking at getting rid of some more toys to finance my supplies and pay down the few bills I have (one credit card, Jeep payment 12 months left)

My current focus is still trying to soak in living in the true boondocks. A true 20 miles from "stuff" takes some getting used to. Definitely grab extra items at the grocery store now to keep from unecessary trips. I do pass everything on the ride home which is convenient.
Projects on the property and a demanding job are taking up most of my time. Also trying to balance being a dad and a husband/ do-boy...lol.

                            My current pressing projects:
Clearing property (most will be done in the cold months)
Clearing for garden. Amending soil. I have been building boxes out of pallets from my shop. They look great and will work well with what we are doing.
About to start trying my hand at making some knives. I have some small strips of steel from work that should turn out well.
Getting food stocks up to another couple of months worth. By storing 1-2 weeks at a time, it can be worked into weekly grocery budget.
                            Find some .22LR
Looking for a rain barrel that isnt $50+
Getting ready for my 2nd hunting season. Cant wait to try out my new gillie suit.
Get more propane in our tank.
                            Meeting my neighbors.
                            Win my fantasy football leagues.
Get to the S&P campout and have a GREAT time and finally hang with RR!

                            Our early 2014 projects:

Get some alternative power to our well and septic pump.
                            A new vehicle.
Getting our irrigation system to the garden.
Buy an AK........ sorry Matt and Grand....haha
                            Double my ammo
Secure a chainsaw and a tiller.
Get certified in first aid ( my work may be paying for this earlier)
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

it takes awhile....were still adjusting. its more of you "have" to plan your trips vs just jumping up and saying " you know what im heading to walmart for some xyz...".
that an accepting that certain luxuries(911 care, police, gas, etc....) arent just around the corner.
