i have been profiled. we'd been working on a 96? model nissan that was rough. dressed in dirty rough clothes, my associate and i were stopped by the police. we were driving in an unscale neighborhood, in a county a long way from where either of us lived and a long way from where the car was registered... cop came down strong... we were all the same color. associate was a military officer, but besides the haircut, didn't look like it, dressed like me, and late at night.

so let's talk about profiling...

i think he made the right call given our appearance, the vehicle, the location, the time of day. . .

so for the rest of the story...
we were 250 miles from home. this officer was from my county...
he drilled us on where i lived... what the neighborhood was like..
he finally owned up to being from my home county...
my wife taught with his mother.
he had worked law enforcement in the area.
we had an upcoming election for sheriff... i knew both men. but knew the incumbent best.
i asked him "well, since you are from there, and worked l.e. there, i know the sheriff, but only know the newcomer a little. who will make the better sheriff, mr. incumbent, or mr. newcomer?"
he went to racing to cut off his radio microphone on his shoulder very rapidly.
it was nearly funny.

folks in another thread some respected members of s+p pointed out that
evil attacks were done by white's on blacks. my 3 examples have all been black on white. in an effort to be fair... i'll start a thread inviting posts of news stories of
white on black crime, so we can look for profiling factors there also.

being as ive worked/lived in the arm pits of our society i'll say there is "profiling" going on ,on all sides.

however it seems it happens more(is more apparent) with those who are not/have not or have been thrust into that environment.,aka the lady who gets mugged and now thinks all xyz types are muggers/criminals..

think of it as reverse "sticker shock"

No racism about it folks but Helen Keller could see that in the last 10-20 years we have been moving towards the point where Africans are the protected class in the U.S. Where it will go in 20 more years, I don't know.

Their was an interesting paperback that I found at a survival show almost 20 years ago, I expect you could probably still find a copy- "If I die on the Jersey front."

We are kidding ourselves if we think America is so super awesome we could never break apart as the USSR did or worse yet, become like Yugoslavia did.

But think about this- you have two ways of getting all the pie- you can fight the other party tooth and nail for it, take a lot of damage yourself in the process OR

over time, a little at a time, gain a dominance in the culture, get another generation and then another generation first accepting, then being "equal" and finally being above through legislation, fear, cultural norms and media influence. Over time, you'd have the whole damn pie and few would even recognize it. In the meantime, anyone who sees this happening and/or raises the alarm, you condemn immediately with the cry of racist. Condition everyone to this to where anyone outside the norm could be called this, make it a universal condemnation.

I remember as a kid two of my buddies, one was black, the other from S. America, they would fight like no one else I've ever seen. Talk about "racists", these two were more racist than any old man in a white robe and pointy hat! I literally thought they were going to kill each other on more than a few occasions. I literally stopped them from killing each other on more than a few occasions....

First I've heard of it. I wouldn't be surprised if justice was upheld in this situation as this is still by and large a conservative State that believes the punishment fits the crime and pretty sure they will get charged as adults.

And reasonably certain Jesse, Al and the remainder of the race baiters will skip Oklahoma and go someplace else.

I would say this line of thought isn't maybe the best...

While we all tend to profile, criminals aren't always the black urban youth with saggy pants and their flat brim hats. If I was to profile, I'd end up placing this person in the "bad" category based solely on his appearance:

Point to ponder, my house was robbed one night and the police tend to think they know who did it. Black youth? No, white tweakers with little to lose and supporting a meth habit. Now if I was profiling I'd completely skip them over and move onto the few black members of my small community out here in OK. But when it comes down to brass tacks, the threat isn't from them, but rather from the ones that are of my own race.

Key point to remember? Never judge a book by it's cover. Be cautious, be wary, be prepared, but anyone and everyone has it in them to do bad things these days. So instead of "profiling" as you put it, one should be cautious as to whom is around and where you happen to be at. That's not profiling, that's proper planning. If you believe deep down everyone has the potential to do you harm (until you get to know them) you end up being far more prepared for anything that will happen. White, black, Asian, Hispanic...little green men from Mars, all have it in them to do bad things to anyone. If I was to get into a fight, I could wish for someone keeping my back like Mr Colion Noir. Or Matt. Or one of my best friends who's Puerto Rican. Race doesn't matter, what's inside counts.

I know I won't be changing your mind easily on this as you obviously have deep seated feelings on this issue. But I do believe you need to think about it in a color blind situation. While statistics will show who commits a lot of the crimes today, nobody is above suspicion until they prove themselves to me. And I don't care what color they are. If you don't prove to me you can be trusted, I'll always look at you as a suspect.

Just some thoughts on the matter.
