  • Ebay scams and Ebay "buyer protection" BS

What a crock of smelly stuff.....

Well I broke one of my own rules and bought something off Ebay that I shouldn't buy on Ebay. And true to form it backfired on me!

The seller was/is in Spain and I was the only one that bid I guess because of that.

First off he asked for $60. more cash for shipping to U.S. OK, not happy about that but I understand ship costs. Asked for a tracking number, nothing for two weeks, then a box shows up. It has less than HALF of the contents in it. Email him again- by this point he had already not been answering emails- waited a couple days then contacted Ebay.

After all, they are all about the buyer supposedly right? I mean they blaze that huge Ebay buyer protection BS everywhere right? They've raised fees on sellers, taken away the seller's rights to leave negatives, etc. so they definitely are taking care of buyers now, right?

Start the "resolution process"- seller responds to that "no everything is in the box". Dude I sold this stuff for years, wherein you don't even know the damn names of half of it, I know each item well. Full list of given of what's missing. No response from seller. I must respond within 1 day to each thing, but then after that I see "seller has 7 days to respond", which of course he uses. After the 7 days lapse, wherein which Ebay implies that the case is automatically ruled in your behalf (read Default because of lack of answer), still no "judgement" from the all powerful and looking out for the buyer lords of Ebay.

Finally ask Ebay to "rule" on the case. Get an automated message to send back what I received to the address in Spain and once I submit tracking information I will receive a refund.

Now I know damn well by this point that the seller is a total POS and I'm sure has cleaned out his paypal account. And I've had similar dirtbag experiences on ebay wherein ebay "congratulated" me by telling me they "collected $.20" of a $200. deal, etc. So I kinda realized at this point I'm throwing good money after bad. However being the Boy Scout and wanting to do the damn right thing (which ISN'T always a good idea I might add, but it's hard to not do..), I spend $85. shipping the damn crap back to Spain. Go and input the tracking number as Ebay has already implied that a refund will come right away after that point. Nope, once the item is received by the seller, then Ebay will refund the money (again, IF their is anything in his paypal account at this point).
And to get a tracking number, my PO tells me we have to ship it international Express mail, fill out all the customs forms, waste another hour of time, etc.

Then today I get a email from Ebay that the case is closed. Oh goody, that means THEY did the right thing right? Hell no, just means you ain't getting jack, jack!

Ebay for hard to find items? No thanks. Ebay looking out for buyers? Total BS. Ebay "buyer protection"= TOTAL BS!

Now you know if you didn't already. Sure you might save $5. dealing with some fly by night on Ebay, and the little seal of "Ebay buyer protection" might ease your fears, KEEP DREAMING MY FRIEND.

Now out the purchase price + $60. additional ship + $85. shipping back, thanks Ebay for keeping your word

i wouldnt let it go. When I sold on ebay I had to have a credit card on file that could be used to give refunds if my paypal account was empty. Go after it....call ebay

Usually the buyer gets all of the protections. I had them take money back out of my account one time for an item that I sold. I have also won a couply while buying.

You should always use Paypal , they will get it straight with a quickness . I have bought many ( over 1k items ) off ebay and every so often I get something not right . I just ordered an ARB fridge from a large vendor on ebay and it was the display model . I let Paypal know that I ordered something new and not something that had been sitting out being poked and prodded and anything else . They had it handled in a few days . I received a discount/refund and a gift card . I haven't ever disputed with ebay , I go where the money is .

Used paypal, tried to start the dispute via paypal, they would not, had to go through Ebay. Ebay pulled a bunch of BS- send it back to him in Spain, incur $80.+ shipping it there and THEN we'll refund you. BS. I'm too much of a damn Boy Scout- I realized it was BS long before I sent the item back, I should have kept it and only been out half the stuff.

I've had similar happen before and your not safe just because you use paypal, quite the contrary, if I'm unsure about something/someone, I'd rather use a straight Visa or Mastercard direct. All a scummy POS person has to do is clean out their paypal account and ebay/paypal will just tell you "we were able to recover 5 cents..." Had that happen before on some textbooks I bought on Ebay.
