I dunno bout that major, dude can't even defend himself from his people much less engage a power. I think maybe someone knew where the "red line" was and that it was crossed and they decided to do something about it before those chems fell into the wrong hands

Maybe not super major but major in a sense that Syrias friends hate the IZ and the IZ hates their friends. And those chemical weapons may be worth something to some people.

I think Matt's assesment is correct. Israel knows this is the only time they can get away with eliminating stockpiles of chem and conventional weapons that could get to Hezbollah.
I think when this conflict settles down, we will see the potential for a situation where the Muslims unite, Sunni and Shi'a. When that happens, danger will come.
remember, the conflict in Syria is basically a conflict between the Sunni based Muslim Brotherhood, and the Shi'a backed (but largely secular baathist government) government of Assad.

This action puts the pucker-meter a bit higher into the yellow, as it could be used as an excuse by Iran, as some news reports say it was Iranian missiles headed to the Hezzies... So technically Iran property until delivered...

Plus I watch Syria closely due to the Biblical prophecies related to it and the "Lion of Assyria..."
