Depending on how it is implemented, the implications of this change could be huge. With the stroke a of a pen and without the consent of Congress, ATF bureaucrats could make ANY gun part or accessory (including magazines) or ammunition that were originally manufactured or perhaps even those designed for military use no longer legal for importation for civilian use. That might mean no more milsurp parts sets. No more milsurp magazines. No more milsurp ammo. No more milsurp optics. Perhaps not even spare firing pins. This could be ugly.

I was under the impression the Garands were initially blocked, but Congress overrode it or something. Been a while and the memory is hazy, but something along those lines rings a bell. Of course, there was also the little fact the Koreans were attempting to sell them back to us when they just so happened to be USG property to start with lol. But yes, Fineswine, Obama and the normal crowd were screaming about "weapons of war" coming back into the country and arming domestic terrorists or something to that effect.

The tin foil crowd has been saying for a while now the imported ammo has been held up in ports by Customs. While this certainly appeared to be the case with all the shortages as of late and the suspicious lack of Russian animal brand ammo, Prvi and IMI and others, those (with the exception of the Russian stuff) have actually hit the market as of recent. Just in smaller quantities and snapped up so quick it looks like they aren't in stock. Can't speak to the Russian Animal brands, but Tula has come in as of recent, so it's getting through.

But overall, I wouldn't put it past anyone in the administration to put the brakes on importing ammo, parts and even weapons to be in compliance with the UN treaty that supposedly doesn't impact our 2A Rights.

ETA: Apparently the Garands were supposed to come in, but I never saw them for sale. Doesn't mean it didn't happen and CMP is just making sure they are good to go for the moment or they just slipped under the radar. However, the 600K M1 Carbines are still held up because of the scary mega ultra huge gianormous 15 round magazine that is "a danger to society" and "they can be gotten for illicit purposes."

      Or something like that.
