food- canned,fresh or seed/plants
say 15 cans for 1 hen (store bought cans) 2lbs of fresh veggies per hen or citrus 2 gallon bucket worth per hen.

i trade you for five hens..i lease 5 others to you. you raise ,feed, etc. i get 40% of the eggs those 5 produce. if they stop producing you eat them(of course all five wont be eaten right away...i hope). after 1 years time , my take goes to 10% of production and at 18 months time you own the birds

I am liking the Lease 5 Hens thing... As long as they dont abuse the relationship and truly let you get the eggs.

there are some critters around my place that love to eat chickens.

they might eat some of the leased ones..
sometimes they get one on sundays

a gallon of fuel could take us to the big city and back one time.

50 rounds of rifle ammo.. thats valuable... but getting 5 eggs a week could
really help keep us healthy... week after week.

I don't think I would ever be willing to lease any of my hens to anyone. That deal would have too much potential to turn sour and I'm not that trusting.
If you wanted an older hen that is no longer laying eggs or a rooster, you could get it for a lower price than a laying hen.
If you wanted one of my laying hens, it would probably cost you more. The laying hen would give you eggs and you could eat her when she stops laying eggs.
And if you wanted one of my broody hens, the cost would be pretty high, (IF I ever decided to trade one off) because she has a much higher potential to sit and hatch eggs. which would increase my flock.
So, the cost would depend on which hen you wanted and what I needed at the time of the trade. I would probably want ammo, but there might be other things I need.
Right now I can tell you that I might be wiling to trade a laying hen for 50 rounds of 9mm, but who knows what the cost will be when the time comes. The best advice I can give you right now is to stock up on the things that you think people would want. Ammo, vegetable seeds, food, extra mags, fuel, etc.

I think as the farmer with the hens it would be in my best interest to come to some sort of trade agreement, so not to make my self an target for an increasingly desperate neighbor, as the neighbor you should have had an back up plan . Trade differs from group to group, you must know the type of person or group. Put alcohol is an good trade. It can distilled down for fuel or medical use.

I would value the toilet paper much higher than the .22 ammo. People will remember the ammo, but forget the toilet tissue... Not part of the 3b's of prepping.

Cloth will degrade over time, but it would last a lot longet than paper TP. Store some powdered bleach and rubber gloves for cleaning.

we have some that is years old... kept dry and out of the sun and heat.

to a chicken farmer with 100's of chickens 2 or 3 layers would mean little.
to me... without a layer, but a chicken house already... i'd give a lot for 3 laying hens.
