  • A what if.....

Sitting out in my front yard this morning manning the store I thought .........what if the lights went out while you had a yard full of folks at a yard sale.
Would you try and piece things together?
Would you kick everyone out at gun point?
Would you welcome them into your home? Total strangers?

    Food for thought.

Well I'll say it since dont nobody else wanna belly up to the bar:
The lights go out as in an emp then the cars dont run and depending on far out you are then it becomes harder on you because them little ole ladies and sheeple just aint gonna start humping it back home when the cellyphones dont work and the car wont start. They will look to you and try and become your problem. Then all them yard picking flipflopwearin honeybooboo babys mommas be wanting a cold drink and a place to squat on your front porch. Then in bout 30 minutes when no one comes ta get them and they gets hungry then they gonna want you to feed them 6 tricycle motors they drug up there with them.
You know what time it is and what the answer is and it sucks but the reality is it will come "like a thief in the night" and "we know not the time" and we will all probably have someone or someones that we didn't plan on like a garage sale of folks, daughters new boyfriend, friend who just over to watch the fights on tv or maybe a small group from church. Then it might get real hard to say scat huh? Might have to be ready to teach them real fast where their role is and what is expected or be willing to let them go. You might get lucky and they all wanna get home and just leave but maybe if they are friends then you might need to let them have a little food/water/supplies to see that they make it.

        i don't want any serfs.
not enough supplies to care for them either.

i would assume the lights going out and the cars not cranking would be a "longterm" problem.

in that event what i have for sale is probably worth more to me as a thing than the .50 i was trying to get for it...
        close my sale.
tell folks i need food and needles and cloth and animal food, and tools etc.. . offer generously to buy the contents of folks cars.

tell folks they should walk home and do so quickly so that they could make it home before dark.

        some would leave.

then get the old tractor and hook it to a flat bed trailer. making a big deal of how i only have a couple of gallons of diesel.... asking energetically if anyone has a diesel car or any diesel compatiable fuel in their car. then nicely insisting that folks load on the trailer. they would not be invited to stay. from my house the road goes east and west. west is nothing. east is a small town. i would take the folks to small town so that their relatives could pick them up there. if we passed a "walker" they would be invited to ride. if i got there and it was reasonably close, i would deliver the "old folks" to their homes or home of a relative, friend or church etc... asking along the way for any diesel donations or purchases. i know many of my neighbors. i would quietly invite them to ride "shotgun"

getting the folks away from my house as quickly as possible would be advantageous.

i would not kick folks out at gunpoint.
        no guns would be visible.
in our area guns would not be needed at first few hours.
guns would be hidden, just in case i'm wrong in last sentence.

        a great "what if"

btw. i'd like to have a yard sale now. i will not have one at my home.
i have arranged 2 yard sales at a club where i'm a member.
i have started process of arranging a yard sale in a nearby village, so that i'm not faced with this situation.

but... having a group of people at your home could still occur. church group,
football game party, neighborhood cookout etc... but in those events, i would know the visitors....
the yard sale brings up a whole new set of potential problems.

        a great "what if"

Folks I'm sure this is just a temporary thing, but I think it's important to get home and check on your loved ones. A gal just told me that she heard things are better up the road in (insert name of town close enough to walk to but away from my yard).

For now we can push your cars down the road a bit where old Mr. Ted is always home, that way he can keep watch over them.

I can help you all for just a minute but since this was a MOVING SALE, we have no food or water in the house so I'm going to have to go and find some right away.

Really no different than when the power goes out and your in Walmart- people WILL seek the "shelter" of the store and wait around. So you gotta get it in their mind that
            1. Their ain't crap here for you, heck I don't have crap, what do YOU have that I can get from YOU?
            2. Better pastures, Red Cross blankets and hot coffee is just up the road a bit- oh and spread the word carefully, you "heard it " from someone else.

It's like I've said before relating to the scummy friend that is always asking you for money- next time you see him YOU start telling him a sad story and then ask HIM first for money. Do that once or twice and pretty soon he'll leave YOU alone.... ;)

BTW, did I tell you my child inside has TB? Yeah we all got vaccinated, did you?

              Nice, real nice

I wont go into detail but anything they leave behind like them vehicles need to be turned into immediate assets for yourself. There are a lot of resources for living, defense and weaponizing in a vehicle even with power down.
Start thinking outside the box like the examples above in LD3 post, stop thinking like a regular person and get creative. It will be the difference

Matt has the right idea, after they leave the redneck ingenuity will come out in full force to be creative using parts to make things....

I originally didn't post this for various reasons but this was what i had emailed some and many examples can be found with a little research in areas such as the west bank, beruit, mexico, somolia etc:

I would move them cars they drove to the garage sale for a weighted blockade, remove the air in the tires to keep someone else from just moving them outta the way then start denying the ability to use them as cover against me. Start with taking the doors off to open it up for incoming fire, placing broken glass, barbed wire, directional pointed sticks or metal pieces like slightly modified windshield wipers, body support rods near the fenders and under the hood, headrest spikes, antenna and other devices on the far side so they can't lay down on the far sides and set a few traps like placing the now useless emp sucked batteries on the hood on the far side of the car away from me so when i shoot them the acid sprays out on those trying to use the engine block as cover and little things like that.
Other things can be done with the fuel and power steering fluids that have lower flash points combined with car parts for projectiles, such as lug nuts, screws, fan blades etc. The fuel can mostly be drained as what is needed is mostly fumes rather than the liquid for offensive/defense purposes.
The spare and other tires are always good for a fire to be used for smokescreen especially when you drain the oilpan/transmission into it combined with foam from the seats, illumination at night, fire which burns flesh denying area access and the psychological factor.
Heavy items such as the driveshaft can be placed on the roof/trunk/hood with a small trigger from plastic/metal or the hood/trunk release and wire obtained from the vehicle that can release it so it rolls off onto the far side to make a deadfall though it is way below the 5-1 weighted kill ratio it should provide for injury like maybe a cracked skull/collarbone/toe because it can generate over the 5-8lbs needed pressure to do so and possibly cause unregulated movement allowing for a shot to an exposed extremity.
The fan belts, seat belts and wiring harness can be set for nighttime tanglefoot.
The battery terminals and posts should be kept for the lead to make ball/bullets even for slingshots or fishing. It's a bit soft for anything over 900fps but 38s/45s/muzzleloaders are GTG. If you could obtain enough solder from the wire tips or computer area you can mix it to harden the lead for magnums/9mm loads. Old style tire weights are excellent bullet material.
The mirrors should be placed behind the vehicle pointed at the vehicle where you can see anyone behind the car through your rifle optics looking at the mirror or used to direct the sun at the most likely places they will fire from to deny sight.
The broken safety car glass isn't good for cutting but can be swept into areas so that the crunch underfoot makes noise denying ease of movement or used to make a rattle line in the plastic hubcaps like cokecans and pebbles using wiring for the line.
Some of these are done immediately with little effort and the rest will be for later because we always try to improve our position over time
