  • The "SURVIVALIST" movie thread! Movies to rent & watch...

Did not see a general survivalist movie thread elsewhere, so I started one...

This thread is for listing movies you JUST WATCHED and a BRIEF review (with no spoilers). Not a thread for just listing all the possible survivalist movies ever made...

    The Divide (Netflix)

Watched The Divide two nights ago and found it somewhat realistic to what "city dwellers" might have to look forward to being unprepared in a major city... But it was depressing like "The Road" was... Makes you wish you were the vaporized ones if this is what awaits the city dweller caught with other unprepared strangers in a surprise nuke attack on the USA... I found the makeup effects of long-term underground living with no sunlight very well done... Also shows how some people really might be. Worth a watch, but be warned, it is a dark story...

I mention "The Divide" in this video. It's the modern version of "The Shelter" episode of Twilight Zone IMO.

Debauchery, do not watch with the kids!
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Some from my list I own....
Contagion (one of the best and most realistic ways a virus could spread think bird flu)
      The Day After (1983 classic)
The End of Suburbia (2004 documentary)
Escape from la and escape from ny just cause its cool and funny to go back and watch.
The Happening (2008 not really a prepper movie but a good end of the world type event)
Left Behind (2000 Christian Based end of the world movie)
Any of the Mad MAx cause hes mad max :)
Outbreak (1995 another way a virus could spread martial law etcetc. good movie)
Patriot (1995 Steven Seagal how a malitia gets ahold of something like anthrax and sickens a whole town, martial law imposed and more)
Post Impact (2004 Meteor strike causing a tidal wav and dust cloud.)
Red Dawn (1984 the original was much better than the remake in my opinion)
Red Dawn (2012 if you must but the acting is bad and to believe that the one pu$$y boy mans up and becomes billy bas a$$ is just not believable)
Right at your door (2006 another bomb goes off and virus is spread good twist ending)
The Road (2009 good movie made from the book)
The Sum of All Fears (2002 Russia and AMERICA almost nuke each other good spy film , Jack Ryan Cia)
The Survivors (1983 funny survival with robin williams and jerry reed, and walter matheau)

Thos are just a few Im sure theres lots more I have I didnt list hope that helps.

The book of Eli was pretty good; Watched "the day" it was not bad could of been a bit better; if you are into non-gross zombies 'I am legend' isn't too bad. Of course i loved the Resident evil series.
'day after tomorrow' was ok lots of ice and family issues; I agree with recon prepper on the Red Dawn statements.
'Tomorrow when the war began" is a good movie: The movie is set in the sleepy rural township of Wirrawee. The story begins with seven teenagers deciding to go camping to a remote wilderness area before school goes back. While they are away, the town has its annual Commemorative Day celebrations so the teens don't worry when they see a fleet of planes flying overhead, assuming its part of the weekend festivities.

my wife's favorite is 6 days and 7 nights with H. Ford of course!

Alive (true story both a Book and a Film)
            127 Hours (again true story)
            The Way Back
            Castaway
            Bat*21

Its sad but I have seen most all of the movies mentioned...But I really must find:

The divide I found at Walmart maybe six or seven months ago. I've seen it at numerous walmarts. End of Suburbia you'd probably have to order online- it's a Peak oil type "documentary."

No one has seen Warlords of the 21st Century?" Spock looked it up one time and it was evidently released under another name also.

Threads- the 80's British version of The Day after, just much more dismal- if that was possible.

Panic in the year zero. Omega Man. Omega Diary.

Their is a whole genre of old cheesy post apoc flicks out there. I made a list of a bunch of my old VHS's of these one day, I don't know wth I did with the list though. At one point had over a hundred of these.

                    The COLLAPSED

Totally sucked! Got barely 45 minutes into it and still had no clue what had happened or why, and nothing made sense... Stopped it and put in Game of Thrones Season 2 DVD 1... Yeah, buddy!

Just wanted to add that this movie is a little dark and probably at least pg-13 for when they run out of bullets they use knives and machetes. couple heads come off but not gory like a zombie movie. :)

So I was able to watch "The Divide" this weekend... and yeah DARK is the keyword. Recently I have been reading some of SELCO's blogs (I don't know if this guy is real deal or a complete nut so this is not an endorsement) and he describes some very DARK stuff that corresponded to the movie. I really want to know what ended up happening to that little girl.

Because of this article i'm putting together a least of movies i want to watch on the topic, i ran across "Atlas shrugged II" and was wondering if anyone saw the first one. There was talk about putting out a third one but said it would only appeal to a select audience. any thoughts on it? good, bad, not even in the genre like i think? Thanks

Atlas Shrugged Part I was decent... It could have been better directed/acted, but it was good. But NOT a "survivalist" movie.

It made me think about how Government Corruption, Big Business directing Media and Unions all stall the little guy and even bury new ideas.
