  • SUN Spots...

If anyone remembers the asteroid that hit russia, the reports were that it knocked out cell signals for a while. Just mentions in the articles really because nobody seemed to care.

For the last 2 days I have been really busy but it seems that everytime I pull up the internet or flip on the tv somebody has this picture of this sunspot on the sun, and some nasa geek is talking about the dangers of solar flares "of the magnitude we have never seen." (from foxnews this morning.)

Just thought I would throw this out there as a little warning of sorts.

Yeah, it is of interest... Have no clue what a strong blast from the sun would do to our modern society... Maybe nothing, maybe everything... Take it as it comes...

If the solar flares are as large as some predict, we'll be back to posting messages down on the wall in the town square, instead of on the internet..

Nobody knows what will happen. That scares some people. It's pretty easy to prepare for, have a spare, keep in a faraday cage.
We've had blackouts caused by solar flares in this country. Think of a flare as being a very loud shotgun blast, and every strand of wire as an ear. It Shuts the power off because the power grid has the biggest ear, and the ear amplifies the heard signal until the eardrum busts. your cell phone, by comparison has a smaller ear that's tuned for it's specific frequencies.

for an interesting thought exercise, compare the dangers posed by a complete collapse of infrastructure (no mobile cars, no radio, "Light's Out" type EMP event) to a scenario where ONLY the power grid goes down, and initially, other infrastructure remains intact (including backup generator powered cell towers)

actually it was an EMP event. Great book. Takes a look at the medical situations that could occur. dialisys, diabetes, diseases gone rampant, cholera etc. Really makes u want to knock off a pharmacy after the fall.

They have another one out, suppose to be a very violent. Called it a burst of radioactive solar particles that has erupted from the Sun, streaking toward Earth at 900 miles per second, supossedly NASA has announced it. wasn't sure if i could include the link or not but found it at WND.com. sometimes they are more sensationalist than bare fact, but its suppose to be here by this coming Sunday???

Didnt think we could get warnings that far out. It doesn't take 4 days for the suns rays to reach us

Well, could be that it doesn't take 4 days i have no idea, I ain't that smart, but 900 miles per second sure sounds like it would be here a lot faster than that. :) its just what i read, but i am a little concerned about Sun EMP, so i read about it, maybe too much. :)

That would be a CME -Coronal Mass Ejection. It's the buckshot that follows the flash from the initial solar flare.

So it takes 4 days for CME to reach us? Then why dont we get warnings more than 12-30 hrs in advance i wonder?
