  • That dreaded NEMO

Any of our northeastern brethren make it through the storm OK?

    Hope everyone is doing good

Looks like it was a monster.

Kind of off topic, but when/why did we start naming winter storms??

Were good. Dumped a lot of snow on us but we are upstaters, we are used to it. Today was a different story. After nemo's snow dump the days have been above freezing while the nights are well below freezing. Combine that with last nights bout of freezing rain, I have been up since 0230 responding to MVA's and cars off the road. Luckily, no serious injuries just prolonged scene times awaiting towing agencies but that is to be expected. We also had a partial roof collapse at a residence at 0730 this morning from the weight of the snow then the rain on top of it.
Folks to the east were in far worse shape than us. Some places in CT got 30+" and from what one of the members of our Department were saying this morning, parts of the Mass Pike are still closed.
My parents lucked out, they are down in your neck of the woods visiting kin folk in McDonough GA over in Henry County.

Benn, NWS started naming them this year.

McDonough is where I lived more than half of my life. You never know , they may stay! :)

I talked with one of my vendors today in CT and she said they had 31" at their shop. I wouldnt know what to do with that amount.

I am amazed at the huge amount of development around there since the early 90's. When my uncle built his house in '94 the closest neighbor was 1/4 mile away. Now, there are houses all around him and businesses. I only get down there every few years so to me the changes are much bigger than it is to those who live there. You are right though, it is a GREAT area. I was going to be a Paramedic down there until I met my wonderful wife and settled in the North. It was a huge sacrifice (living in this commie state) but she is a great woman and it is worth it.

As far as what to do with the snow, that what the ole IH is for. Blade it to the collection area and then build a big ole pile with the bucket loader. Some of my classmates from Paramedic school work for FDNY now and they had a difficult weekend. Quite a few fires due to poorly placed space heaters and a LOT of people with heart attacks because of shoveling snow.
