From an unusual source;
He brings valid points to the conversation, police cannot be everywhere at once. But some people just can't wrap their heads around that:
Same person that is the director of the "Wisconsin Anti Violence Effort." And probably not a victim of violence by those who don't care about peace, love and hugs instead of raping, robbing and killing. Another of the entitlement mentality that their safety is someone else's responsibility. I sleep well at night knowing my local PD and SO is on duty, but I also realize I live way out in the county and my local police have agreements to back up other local departments at night and cannot be in my driveway all night long. Sometimes they are 10 to 15 minutes out. And I'd be dead for 9.5 to 14.5 of those minutes if someone was determined.
So this idiot in the article is obviously someone who cannot comprehend police cannot be everywhere at once. They believe the first time they dial 911 two uniformed officers will magically appear at her door and stop whatever bad someone is visiting on her. However, reality smacks you in the face and this is what happens:
And with highly justified resolution. But according to Ms. Bonavia we should all just wait for the police after a man broke through three doors trying to get at her and her kids. That makes perfect sense! Or better yet, call up Ms. Bonavia and have her talk to the intruder and convince him otherwise. That'll work. Oh, but the police and sheriff has a DUTY to protect everyone at one time. And who's going to pay for the additional officers on the street Ms. Bonavia?
Instead of accepting donations from people who cannot grasp the fact there are bad people in the world who would scoff at the "non-violence group" she started, maybe spend the money hiring NRA self defense instructors and teaching people some personal responsibility and how to defend themselves when faced with an intruder with a crowbar. Do it for the children.
Anyway, rant and sarcasm off.
Good to see more law enforcement putting it out to the public they cannot be everywhere at once. And urging citizens to take more responsibility in their lives instead of sitting on their behinds waiting for someone to save them.
A sheriff who released a radio ad urging Milwaukee-area residents to learn to handle firearms so they can defend themselves while waiting for police said Friday that law enforcement cutbacks have changed the way police can respond to crime.
"I need you in the game," he says.
"With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option," he adds. "You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. ... Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there."

"I feel like this is such an irresponsible thing for our chief public safety officer of a county to do," Bonavia said. "I think he owes this community an apology. And if he really believes that he's not capable of providing for our public safety he should get a different job."
