if i'm getting off topic, someone holler and we'll start a new thread.
here are some short stories an associate heard recently.
assoc was a new member at a meeting of christian men from different churches.
at the end he asked if anyone could help with a project for an hour or so. 3 of the men that he didn't know well volunteered quickly. it was only 2 hours but backbreaking and dangerous work. gladly given. expecting nothing in exchange.
the work was for a christian service organization. one of the men quickly realized the benefit this project could be to a community in the event of a catastrophic event. as he left he discreetly left a 1,000 check with the manager. donor had never heard of the organization before, and did not know the manager/sponsor. he did know a couple of the workers there, which added credibility to the organization.
assoc was with a group of good men. tim had been hunting and told of a small plane flying over the area. pilots son was in the group. tim advised that he had thought about peppering the plane to encourage it to fly elsewhere. son advised that it was best that he hadn't fired on plane as pilot was always armed. son went on to advise of the mounting bracket for a ___ (weapon) that the pilot had attached to plane.
assoc lives at one end of a road. he's meeting folks along the road and discovered he already knew two folks at the other end. the other folks advised that, in the event of a "problem" they would block/watch/protect their end and assoc and his neigbors should block/watch/protect their end of the road.
3 quickie stories.
1 . folks trusting each other, working toether, leaning on each other, community.
2. reputations count. folks are willing to help if the project/purpose is good.
one of the workers was getting "old." everyone there covered a little for him,
but realizing his willingness to work and assist, and doing what he could.
3. i can think of only one reason a fella would mount a weapon mount on an airplane. they realize things may be getting bad, and they are preparing.
are these guys "Survivalists" or "Preppers?" No. But.
is their heart in the right place?
are they willing to help each other?
would they risk injury to assist?
did they all vote correctly?
are they all instrumental in their community?
Yes, to all the questions.
do they have mountain house by the pallet and
do they have 30k rounds of center fire and
do they have redoubts and retreats and bunkers and
do they have 10k gallons of unleaded and 5k gallons of diesel and
are they all ex army rangers?
i don't know the answer to above list. i suspect none have all the above list
i suspect that some of them could say yes to some of the questions.
it makes me feel good to know that matt's rednecks and homesteaders are going about business, as well as some farmers, businessmen, and other associates.

i think these folks i described all live in a state far, far away!!
