One of our cities in our state is giving away rain barrels so that people will use less city water

It's an interesting twist because most cities are outlawing rain barrels and rain collection whereas ours is encouraging it for outdoor water usage.

Ours, several years ago, was selling them for $20. It was a one-time limited offer while I was travelling for my company and missed out on it. Our city encourages folks to use rain barrels for capturing water for shrubs, the lawn, etc..

Hadn't heard of cities outlawing rain barrels and water collection. I'll have to look and see how prevalent it is.

I hadn't heard of these articles. Thanks for sharing :D My HOA is like a Nazi Regime. I did, however, get three 85 gallon water barrels by them by buying the fancier ones that look like Grecian urns. I'm planning at least two more this year.

The scariest part is the last couple of sentences of the first article:

But just how seriously conservation butts heads with existing water rights remains to be seen. "That's going to depend on Obama's EPA," Aiken says, "and what they prioritize."
