  • Cover your tracks

    An idea for "covering" your tracks Moon shiners devised these "cow shoes" to hide their trails going to an from the still. Kept them Revanoors a gussin' I could imagine using Elk hoofs in my AO if need be. Most are discarded where the animals are field dressed. The only problem would be if a real tracker was looking at the prints, they would clearly see that they weren't made by an animal. The gait, spacing, depth etc. would not look natural. Just a thought........

    Stride and straddle would be different and recognizable.

      During the Vietnam war some whizz-kid in the Pentagon came up with the idea to equip the LRRP's (Long Range Reconnisance Patrols) with jungle boots that instead of the normal lugged sole had a sole that left an imprint of a bare human foot. On the theory that the prints would look like Viet Cong or North Vietnamese Army soldiers.
      I never saw them in person, but they pretty much all wore sandals anyway.

        ill tell you this,,,my skeletoes shoes leave hardly any sigm compared to standard hikers or tennis shoes

            i got the 2.0 and the amp. the 2.0's are what im talking about the amp will leave tracks in sand. so will the 2.0's but not as bad. on trail they hardley make any that dont look like barefoot prints anyway.

                Long shot you are right in that the skill of the tracker matters. One of the best ways to lose someone is on rocks, but even rocks leave clues in certain situations.

                Down in florida a good way to hide tracks is walking thru palmetto bushes. Even though that is a bad way to travel. Add in a dog and it would be very hard. Even the old walk in water is no good for tacking dogs. The reason is your sent is left over the water and can hang there for hours. it also depends on factors like wind and dry our moist air, moist air and your sent will hang longer in the air.

                plus there are certain things that can be seen in the track like said above. One thing that helps in tracking is the position of the sun. Noon sun is harder to see prints then a rising and setting sun becasue of the shadows that will be seen in the track. No sun then again skill comes into play. This is a good suject I will try to post more on it. it is an important art form to learn for us. It is also a lot of info, more then people would believe.
