  • Bird Hunting

    BEFORE I START I AM NOT CONDONING BREAKING OF THE LAW. THIS IS AFTER LAW HAS FAILED ONLY

    Ok so over in another post I put down the extravagant prices of ammo like 12ga birdshells. As I sit in the stores and watch and listen folks are buying cases and cases of all kinds of stuff so they can survive by shooting dove n quail n such like they do every season. THAT'S STUPID
    Dove can fly 50mph without the western Oklahoma 30mph wind at their backs and turn on a dime and absorb small pellets in their feathers. It isn't uncommon for 2-8 birds per box of shells during season, be honest here hunters. Quail can be up and down before you find the safety and many a shot goes into the woodline. Geese are regulated with non lead shot and most of those shells, well they stink cause the shot doesn't fly as far, hit as hard or costs are astronomical with $30 a box being the norm and many times 2-3 shots are need for the high fliers.

    Survivalism isnt sport hunting by the rules. Shoot the quail on the ground while they huddle together in the morning cold, the dove on the (probably useless) powerlines, slap the geese with a rifle shot while they sit on the field and down the duck before he comes off the water then wade out and get him.

    I dont carry specialty shells like steel shot in my cans because I have no intention of playing by the rules when it is PAW. Save your money and buy reasonable stuff in quantity. Fix the way of thinking now. Turkey doesn't require a 3 1/2 #5 specialty load that cost $10 for 5 rounds it requires a trotline hung knee high with a dozen pieces of corn then whoop him like a bad acting redheaded child where no one 100yds away knows what happened or a single 22 shot to the lung and patience while the air runs out.

    This goes right along with the tvland idiots and their cased bottled Evian water that spent more than I did for 3 used 65gl barrels and free well water. Change the way of thinking especially in crisis events like this get the most bang for your buck

    AGAIN I AM NOT CONDONING BREAKING OF THE LAW. THIS IS AFTER LAW HAS FAILED ONLY

    A few salt, or salt & mineral blocks, might not be remiss in our PAW supplies. Lots of critters will gather 'round.

    When the woman at the door screeched, "Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms!" I, naturally, assumed it was a delivery....

        Poaching has always been pretty rampant around here but the penalties strict which lead the old countrymen to some pretty ingenious tricks;

        Threading a length of strong cotton with half a dozen or so raisins, and then pegging one end into the ground, bird comes along peck, peck, peck and he’s caught.

        and

        Taking advantage of pheasant’s preference for running by building a kind of corral from brushwood then driving them toward it, and a series of snares.

          There is no doubt that people are going to do what they need to do to survive. There are many different ways to take game; when the law says there is only one legal way and time to take game.

          This would be a practice that I would consider not talking about to anyone.

          There is always going to be someone that will want to make a big deal out of it, regardless of what is occurring in the world.
