  • Invasion of privacy? What are your thoughts?

I am absolutely flabbergasted. I know I shouldn't be, but when you see that kind of stupidity in action, you can't help but be stunned!

Now I am just mad. I bet that wouldn't happen in a red state.

It does not surprise me that they would post something like this. I could see a lawsuit if someones house gets broken into because of this. We are activity looking for a place in PA to move to because this state is just going down hill.

Some folks try to keep under the radar and observe OPSEC only to have it blown by someone/body else..

At least there has been a back-lash of responses against the paper.

The map sparked more than 500 comments from readers within a day of its appearance on the website, many of them voicing outrage at the paper's decision to make the information public.

"This is CRAZY!! why in the world would you post every licensed gun owner information?? What do you hope to accomplish by doing this. This is the type of thing you do for sex offenders not law abiding gun owners. What next? should i hang a flag outside my house that says I own a gun? I am canceling my subscription with your paper today!!!" said commenter Curtis Maenza.

"How about a map of the editorial staff and publishers of Gannett and Journal News with names and addresses of their families

This is an invasion of privacy in the worst way in my opinion. This makes these people targets for the bad guys who may want to get some new to them guns. However, as Antishot said, I am not surprised. This is the type of liberal stuff I would expect to see in my very liberal state. As it is, I will not add my signature to initiatives any more because the liberals have taken to publishing names and addresses of the people who have signed in support of initiatives that they don't like.

Uggghh, I feel like I am falling deeper into the rabbit hole as each day goes by.....

Of course, the liberals at the newspaper didn't stop to think that perhaps they are putting their fellow gun hating liberals in danger of rape, robbery, or death.
If i was a criminal, I would look at the map and pick the houses where there were NO guns to do my dirty deeds. Less chance of getting shot.

You can even switch over to the satellite view, for better tactical advantage!

Aren't you surrendering to them exactly what they want by taking that approach? Don't they win if they "scare" you into submission?

Coworker told me today that the names, addresses, tag numbers were listed online of every employee of that newspaper. Serves em right.

I know the hacker group Anonymous posted the addresses and all the info of every member of the Westboro Baptist Church last week which was awesome.

You make a good point F4F, I cannot disagree with you. However, I am not sure what the right solution is because adding my signature to an initiative is just the same as voting anymore--fruitless. Clearly there are more people out there who want to live off of the government handouts then want to work and try to make a better life for themselves and their families.

The Memphis paper The Commercial Appeal did this a few years ago too. Very irritating. They even had on their web site where you could type in a zip code and it would pull up every name and address of those with carry permits.

Since this story broke I found out the concealed firearms license info in Florida is protected by state law.

I read one article a group was publicizing all the above and the newspaper employees tag numbers too. I don't know if that is confirmed though.

Reformed crooks say the New York newspaper that published a map of names and addresses of gun owners did a great service – to their old cronies in the burglary trade.

The information published online by the Journal-News, a daily paper serving the New York suburbs of Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties, could be highly useful to thieves in two ways, former burglars told FoxNews.com. Crooks looking to avoid getting shot now know which targets are soft and those who need weapons know where they can steal them.

"Having a list of who has a gun is like gold - why rob that house when you can hit the one next door, where there are no guns?”

                              - Walter T. Shaw, former burglar and jewel thief

“That was the most asinine article I’ve ever seen,” said Walter T. Shaw, 65, a former burglar and jewel thief who the FBI blames for more than 3,000 break-ins that netted some $70 million in the 1960s and 1970s. “Having a list of who has a gun is like gold - why rob that house when you can hit the one next door, where there are no guns?

"What they did was insanity," added Shaw, author of "License to Steal," a book about his criminal career.
