  • what else? or was this step 1 in a several step process

    a fellow asked a group.
wow, look at the weapon, ammo, mag situation that developed overnight.. " what else could happen"

all of the responses had to do with guns/ammo pricing, dealers, price spikes, long term, short term? etc..

we all hope that this is just a spike in the pricing/availability cycle of a specific group of items - guns/ammo.

what if it is not.... what if this is the beginning of very strict gun laws.

well that leads to what else..
    i'll make two proposals...
1 what if there was an event that suddenly caused a huge price increase and availabiliity problem with food.
and this food scarcity came on the heels of the gun/ammo situation..
    or
    2. what if there was an event that suddenly caused a huge price increase and availability problem with fuel?

either of these would be devastating on the country.

so... i put forth the suggestion that fuel is now priced on the low end of the price cycle.. we should all be buying fuel, stabilizing it, and securing the storage of fuel. stand by please as i make a plug for jrh.
"folks, get your fuel additive right here from our sponsor, JRH. lowdown, what would you recommend that our
visitors today use for their fuel additive? PRI - G and PRI - D you say.. well lowdown, have you used these
products yourself??? do they really really work? inquiring minds want to know... ahhh. you've used them in your own diesel tank!! wow. and they really extend the life of stored diesel and gasoline... uh huh."
thank you for our sponsor JRH and getting to meet him personally here on our station.

2nd. proposal.. food is not at the low end.. of the price cycle. it is steadily increasing and all signs are that
    this increase will continue.
so, i propose that just like we all wish we'd bought out the local gun store, this is a good time to go buy up a big stock of food items.
    and what do you know...
here comes our sponsor... Mr. Lowdown. "sir, tell us. do you have any food items that you could sell us? inquiring and energetic shoppers want to know!!

folks, if we get hit with a second event.. on the heels of the anti gun fever...
let's say, war with iran or strange bacteria in the nations wheat crop.. we'll all be wishing we'd bought fuel/food.

    just some thoughts

The food concern is one of mine. I'm used to drought. Hell, even good years here are "drought" conditions in most other places. The grain belt isn't set up for dryland farming. Even with pivots and other irrigation farmers/ranchers had problems last year over in TX, OK, NE and other big producing states. And it all doesn't mean squat if there isn't enough water in the Mississippi to get the food out.

One year of drought is bad. Most farmers can handle a bad year unless they're already on the edge for some reason. A second year of drought is really bad. Without some serious financial help a lot of farmers will simply go bankrupt. It also plays hell with the land itself. A third year of drought is devastating.

I make no predictions as to whether or not this will happen. We've been through this before and come out the other side. Though this time is presenting some other challenges with the economic mess the country is in, the fiscal cliff we're about to fall over, a vote on raising the ability to pay on the debt in a few months (which will be a mess I'm sure), fuel costs, so on and so forth. Last year's drought spiked prices like happens in bad years. It seemed like it hit people harder than in times past though. I read somewhere that the average family of four was spending $1000 a month of groceries. At a time when most folks are hurting.

I don't really foresee a "food" shortage, but rather a "real food" shortage. And not so much that there isn't any, but that it would be priced too high to be truly affordable. Processed food has so much crap in it that it can withstand all of this to some degree. Real food like meats and vegetables don't have any wiggle room. There's only one ingredient in a pork chop. Can't just add more filler or yellow #5 to make up the difference.

It all depends on the snowpack and the weather. Predicting the weather has never been easy and nowadays it's a total crapshoot. Nothing will surprise me anymore.

Like I said, I'm not saying it will happen. I'm just saying that if it does a lot of the things that are problems now, won't seem like a big deal. What's that saying? "A man with a full belly has a lot of problems. A man with an empty belly has one."

It's as if the media gets talking points. The latest thing around here is if a handgun is used in a robbery, shooting, etc it is now described as "a semi automatic handgun". They NEVER did that before.
It's pretty much a given the most of the non-Fox News media is in love with Obama, but I'm coming to believe the "news" coverage is actually orchestrated by the White House.
Joe Stalin would be sooooo proud.
