Went to Wally Mart in Rockmart GA today to grab some ammo for a possible trip to the range (dang 25mph winds nixed that) and I couldnt believe it.

Everything was just about sold out!

        No .40, no .308, no .223, nada.

My brother got 1 of the last 4 boxes of .45. As we were walking up they were putting 5 boxes (333 round) of .22LR on the shelf, I bought 2, the man behind me bought 3. No more .22LR for a minute they said.

It was weird to walk in a Wal Mart and not see ammo. Really weird.

But, they had an S&W MP15 and MP22...... dang black rifles. Scared the crap outta me. Had to buy some tin foil, literally :)

What were you doing around there... Only criminals buy that stuff and you are lucky you got out of there alive... Those black rifles just kill people at random, all by themselves.

And this is why I have decided CTD doesn't want my business...

Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discount firearms, parts to build your next gun and more.

Some poor schmuck will pay that price though.

Just to see how bad the panic was. I took a picture of 12 PMAGs still in plastic, and created an AD on Craigslist. It said..."You ran out and bought a AR-15! You have no ammo and only one magazine. One half of the equation is here for the taking. $100 buys you one 30 round magazine. Price is high, but since you cant buy it anywhere else, I get to set the price." Before the CL fairy deleted my post, I had 3 emails from people. One said I was an ____hole!, but he needed 3. The other two just wanted all of them. The Ad was taken down within 30 minutes by CL. If any of you subscribe to nutnfancy on youtube, he has called this phenomenon "Fireamageddon." Insane.

I agree with that person. Either you put out a false advertisement you had no intention of honoring...

Or you are straight greedy and willing to take advantage of someone else because "You can set the price since nobody else has them."

A profit on being wise enough to stock up beforehand is perfectly acceptable in this world. But when you charge $100 for a $12 item, that isn't the capitalist market in action, that's pure greed. It isn't like the $70 SKS from a few years back that the market brought the price up gradually over the past few years. This is pure greed that has falsely inflated the market and overnight a $6 Colt 30 round magazine going for $100. That's not the market adjusting, that's greed in action. "I can charge what I want because I'm the only game in town."

I hope you sleep well at night. I know I couldn't. But then again, I'm a simplistic honest moron with a conscience.

We have a local gun shop that refuses to charge above the normal retail on things like PMAGS, and he has said, "I don't want to be remembered as the shop that sold $50 PMAGS..." Naturally, he is sold out... But I am glad I have a shop like that in my town... Fair prices is all we ask...

On YouTube, the justification I have heard many times from dealers caught on tape for higher prices is, "I have to charge more because it will cost me more when I restock..." That is probably true, but those you are selling now cost you $x.xx, and when you reorder and they now cost you $y.yy, then raise your prices THEN to $z.zz to reflect that additional cost. They don't even know for sure if the prices on PMAGS, for example, will go up yet... But their prices have, which is increased profit now...

Wasn't it the Dems who said you should never let a good tradegity go to waste???? Seems like most people jumped on the band wagon to cash in on what could be coming early to make a few extra buck but whats going is just down right highway robbery. Karma has a way of coming back and bitting people in the booty. I'm all for making a buck, its what we all have fought long and hard to get. Supply and demand, we know but this is just crazy. If this was something dealing with a disaster the gobment would step in but this they want to happen to cause panic and caos among the people to give them more reason to pass new laws.

What I dont get is people act like these were the last mags on earth. These magazine companies didnt go out of business. Their demand exceeds their supply. The market was flooded and just had the drain pulled. It will go back to normal or at least close to normal. Those $99 mags Grand posted was absolute BS and I hope someone at CTD get slapped. I already called and told them to take their monthly newsletter and shove it up their cant say on the forums.

Same here. Today I was in a gun/pawn shop I trade with often, asking about AR mags. He was sold out at the moment but said he should have some in after the first. I asked how much? and he told me '$20, just like they have been unless my supplier charges me more' Glad to know this guy wasn't out to raise prices and try to stick it to someone .

CTD has a history of price gouging.. I stopped using them a couple yrs ago... when they jacked 380 up to $60 a box during shortage....Good thing I didn't bite, prices&stock came back shortly.

i think the definition of hoarding is someone who has a product and won't sell it.
                            --
let's just say.. that the mississippi river drops too low for barge traffic and grains can't be shipped cheaply from the western states. compounded by drought and a bacteria is in the grain supply and suddenly the supply of corn/wheat/beans/kellogs cereal is
                            dried up.
and a billy bob has just purchased a whole storage building of wheat/beans/corn. the normal price of these commodities is $1.00 a pound.
the situation is it is dec. 2012 and there will be none harvested until fall of 2013. at least we hope the mississippi water level will rise, and the drought will end and our scientists can find out why the bacteria is destroying all of our grains and beans.
                            --
ole billy bob had been feeling that the Lord was upset with usa for our promotion of sodomitic activity and our sacrificing children to the god of wealth, so billy bob had put all the money he had into food supplies.
now ole rockriver, living in an apartment in the big city, has about a months supply of food. tell me why its wrong for billy bob to sell rockriver wheat and beans for $3.00 a pound.
i need it.. he's got it.. and there doesn't look like there will be a re-supply anytime soon.
folks can holler, this aint fair.
"billy bob should sell the grain for $1.00 a pound"

that would be nice. but i don't see anything wrong with billy bob tripling the price that he paid.
in this story, i'm just glad he was willing to sell.
i know a gun store who just pulled all their ar's and ak's and aren't selling them for any price.
they tell people, " we don't have any. sorry"

One flaw in your story. The fact the manufacturers: ammo, magazines, weapons, etc, ARE still producing those items.

This isn't like 94 when the supply of high capacity magazines was finite which in turn drove the price up. This current market has been created by panic buying to grab everything they can. Difference is, Magpul, Colt and Federal are still producing magazines, carbines and XM193 rounds. They are still getting to distributors. They are still hitting shelves...and promptly getting snatched up. It's not like the plants suddenly shut down because the shelves are empty. I would be willing to bet they are going into overtime production trying to fill orders.

People can complain about the above market prices for items, sure. Other folks are willing to pay double, triple, ten times what it normally costs without batting an eye. And others still had the foresight to stock up before this. My problem?

When the market gets distorted by profiteers looking to rape and rob because they are the only game in town. There is no reason whatsoever CTD should be charging $100 for a used 30 round aluminum magazine. The market is not THAT bad and new stocks will come in to more reputable dealers that won't be screwing over the customer. Cheaper than Dirt is playing straight up dirty, greedy salesmanship. Or lack thereof.

So your analogy of not having a harvest for a year doesn't apply in this situation. This is greed talking from selected online dealers. And while you might not see anything wrong with Billy Bob charging three times what he paid, I also see nothing wrong with doing my part to put the greedy out of business by never buying a thing from them again and moving my dollars towards the dealers that DIDN'T raise prices to astronomical levels.
Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

Man I would love to see $12 mags. Even back when they were plentiful a 30round pre-ban USGI tin mag would cost $30-$45 each.
Right now none of the stores have any.....most of the ones that you can get from private sale are non functional and are still $15 each.
I bet I could easily sell pre-1994 metal mags (legally...so far) here for $50 each right now and not keep up with demand.
