very possible and also possible to be 5000 by next week, but I don't believe it will affect the working people at all, unemployment will still keep climbing and just the fat cats on wall street will still be making their millions.

A dow of 5000 will have a major impact on working folks. Company and Goverment employers invest their retirement and 40l plans in the stock market on a regular basis. In fact, after 9/11 when the market dropped like a lead balloon, hundreds of retirement accounts were wiped out.

With a dow of 5000, businesses will not be able to obtain capital to expand and HIRE workers. The Dow is like taking a countries pulse, and all of us should look at this seriously.

The only people getting rich are large banks and derivative traders, the same people who got us into this financial mess to begin with!

Agree Monkeybird, a drop like that will hurt the 401K plans. Those nearing retirement will see that they cannot retire and will hold their jobs if they can. This will keep someone unemployed from getting that job. Those living on their retirement plans, well lets say, will be living more frugal than they currently are trying to do. It's a domino thing....
