  • Year end assesment

So my year end assesment of my prepardeness. Overall pretty good, but my wife's health status has made us reconsider our bug out options.
Our new plan is to evac town to a friends bunkhouse if in the winter or to our remote cabin if accessable by vehicle. If it's not a total PAW event but just a localized disaster then we would stay home.
So if we stay at home we need more firewood.
If we need to evac to the friends house then we need to pre-position more supplies there. And be able to transport a lot of stuff with use when we go. Luckly it's only about 10 miles away.
My physical condition has improved by a great deal, thanks to losing 20 pounds and improving my aerobic ability.

So overall I feel pretty good about skills as I have been shooting once a week at the range, and we have done 4 bug-out camping trips to test ourselves on how quick we can leave town.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

    Great post!

It's important to look back at what all has changed this year for each of us- health, family status, income, financial situation and how all this affects our prepping. I can't tell you how many people I've heard to make "lists" of stuff up that they NEVER get done. I'm more impressed with the guy that's willing to look back and go "Ok I need to change such and such.." While next year won't be exactly like this year, it can get us an idea on what else we need to do.

We were able to get some major expenditures and homestead ventures finally finished up this year, so that should free up some cash and time in 13. However we had quite a few changes in the extended family this year in regards to health conditions of a couple people. This meant more time involved for us helping out and more $$$ spent traveling, being away from home, etc. That affects work situations which affect the overall prepping situation.

Too often people tend to keep stay too close to the fire that they don't realize it's burning them. Sometimes you have to stop and look and go "damn, how did I get all these burns?" LOL Hopefully that makes sense.

    Great thread, thanks.

health wise weve done better and worse...since my injury ive racked on some of the weight ive lost but that wasa given...wife unit has dropped a ton.

both of us have new jobs or least better ones. which has helped with other issues physically/mentally.but has sucked on t he wear tear on the cars and pocket book for gas money.

havent done much camping or shooting like i would have liked to. But i relocated to a non urban area, a small rural town, Ive started growing my own food, adding to the homestead per say and this month some of our bigger projects will get completed. both the expansion of our garden and our chicken coup..ive been able to fish more which is helping add more non store bought meat to the table and weve made a good seller/buyer relationship with a small seafood/produce/farmers market couple who we buy 90% of our veggies/fruits and fresh fish from,,,again no more major chain bought items , but locally grown stuff.

were also meeting new folks see above, not just in the "prepper"sense of things but adding to our social network per say, we didnt have this for a long time due to where we lived before the move and i think it's helped us both some to know other people besides the golden horde we were surround by before.

13' will hopefully be a back on track year, me getting back into the swing of things physically and also back to being dedicated to more prep projects....and hopefully more growth with my wifes business, which means i could be a stay at home trophy husband lmao ;p

We accomplished several of our goals thankfully. We were able to move to our BOL. Its far enough out to discourage birds from flying in......lol. A solid wooden cabin instead of a sheetrock and 2x4 house. The availability of tons of fresh water, local ponds and sufficient woods to trap, grow and do many of the things we couldn't do before. Still haven't started with the rabbits. I know.......we need to do that right away in the event we get a couple of duds for reproduction. Have finally become friends with the guy down the road who is a moderate prepper and has a giant junk yard for finding almost anything we need to do repairs. Many more things to do but at least its been very productive since we moved in March.

            I moved..
            work stayed the same..
too many changes and drama in my personal life..
I did some preps but it was spotty..
            Kept up with the exercising..
Trained skills with the OWA when I could..
Got a taste of what it's like SHTF mentally..
I have a clearer idea what to prep for next year..

Training with our folks has greatly improved alot of things for me both in preparations and mentally. Every minute we spend together I learn more about them as well as stuff. As for the rest I'm eating the steak one bite at a time and dealing with the curveballs as they come and trying to stay positive
