  • Brushfire Plague- book review

    Available from www.prepperpress.com
    Written by R.P. Ruggiero

Brushfire Plague chronicles the story of a fast moving plague and how it affects a community in the Northwest.

The scenario is very plausible and their are some twist turns near the end (don't want to ruin the story).

Main character follows the standard character themes in so many SHTF type books- tough guy, finds a good looking chic, people rally to him because..... well he's a tough guy that draws good looking chics to him- DUH!! LOL

What I did like- some good ideas for the "last minute" prepper types and while I don't agree with many of the premises of the survival aspects of the book (see below) I did like the reality of the "social engineering" involved in working with a large group of sheeple. I did like his depiction of how things went down in a relatively short period of time.

What I didn't like- I don't care for the "I'll arm my subdivision of people I don't know" mentality. Never found that to be remotely possible or probable. However it is a FICTION story, not a survival planning book and I had to keep reminding myself of that.

Overall it's a GOOD READ and fiction lovers ought to really enjoy it. It's written from the basis of a sheeple NOT from a survivalist, so it's important to keep that in mind to help make the book more enjoyable.

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Love to read so I will get it. I also want to pimp a book that I just read called the "Blue Plague". Atypical Zombie book. Is a book that follows two families that form a group in Louisiana and for 7 years they prep. They just live a self-sufficient lifestyle, while holding down jobs in the local Hospital ER. Great book to wish for stuff. These guys thought of everything, and then some. For a zombie series it is very well written and I truly enjoyed it.

I'll have to check that out. I prefer the "I sacrificed and prepared for years ahead of time" type fiction stories versus the "well the S has HTF but all this manna from heaven fell into my lap and I got really lucky finding this and that and of course "Indian Friend" came along and took me under his wing and taught me all I need to know and..."

It doesn't match how I've lived my life for almost 30 years preparing and I don't think the "survival manna from heaven" idea is realistic.

I also bought a copy of the book. I thought it was pretty good, as well.

The author's political stance was evident, and irked me from time to time. The main character's father who had a proud history of "fighting for the common man" and other little nuggets were sprinkled throughout the work.

In addition, the way the main character turned from a macho tough guy into a hysterical, blubbering drama queen when it came to his family made for some eye-rolling reading on my part.

Anyway, for a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, it was worth the time to read.

then half teh web would cry about it, like they do patriots..." its boring,,how does a guy get all that and have a group and .......and...and....."

it would be interesting to someone actually write a story based on someone who prepared ahead of time.

Just finished it. Not bad. Amazing that every woman in the world is attracted to this guy. Good story though.

Ugh reading right now. Hmm we could do one of two possible things. Take our stuff and bug out to the cabin. Or play community organizer. Guess which one they do?
