This has happened after the 2000, 2004 and 2008 elections also. BTW, Texas has reached the minimum of 25,000 signatures to require a response....as of this posting, it has 40,271 signatures. These petitions won't come to anything real."Common sense might be common but it is by no means wide spread." Mark Twain

The U.S. continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the U.S. suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect its citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.
Cant hate em for trying! You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

I don't hate them for trying....they're the first state that I'd expect to make a move like that. They have a fiercely independent spirit. There are 20 some odd states that have petitions out there to secede. Georgia's one of them....I signed it. If you keep your mouth closed, your voice will never be heard.
Now...sometimes I have to remember to close it and listen, but don't we all LOL."Common sense might be common but it is by no means wide spread." Mark Twain

Ok, I understand some of those states on the list to secede, especially Texas..... But New York and New Jersey?!?!? Why on earth would all those liberals want to lose their federal gov't nipple????
Perhaps they're a little upset with FEMA right now???

Well, Texas hit the mandatory 25K sometime last evening...and has gone up exponentially since then. 61K and climbing. Something tells me Texas is slightly serious about this. 60K in four days and it just hit the major news yesterday?
Louisiana hit their 25K requiring a response.
Florida, Bama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Colorado and Arkansas all are over halfway there. And with the news spreading I figure it won't be long before they hit the 25K.
So the list now goes:
Nebraska
Pennsylvania X 2
Alaska
Kansas
Oklahoma X 2
Utah
Wyoming
California (I'd probably open the door for a lot of them...)
Ohio
New York X 2
Delaware
Nevada
Arizona
Arkansas
South Carolina X 2
Georgia X 2
Missouri X 2
Tennessee
Michigan
Colorado
Oregon
New Jersey (please take the cast of Jersey Shores with you...)
North Dakota
Montana
Indiana
Mississippi
Kentucky
Florida
North Carolina
Alabama
Texas (leading the way lol)
Louisiana
32 States in all. How about that...
ETA: Though there's always one (or 700 or so in this case) in the crowd
ETA # 2: And while I was typing this post...Texas hit another thousand.Last edited by Grand58742; 11-13-2012, 09:20 AM.Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

I think it is a bad idea to put your name on a list on a GOV website announcing your displeasure with this regime. I can only assume that for every one person on the list, there are 10 more that would if it didnt violate OPSEC in a major way. As an IT guy, you can think you are being anonymous as much as you want but EVERYTHING leaves a trail. Even going to the local coffee shop, "borrowing" their internet leaves a trail. Unless you are throwing away your laptop, ipad or whatever you got on the internet with it is tracked and then next time it is on the internet that MAC address shows up. There are MAC address spoofing software packages to create a more anonymous presence, but if you read the disclaimer when you install it, they cant guarantee that they wont get hacked and your information leaks to whoever hacks them. Encryption software is great, but not unbreakable, and if the GOV is the people deciphering your Hard drive then they have plenty of our money to ensure it gets done right. There are countless ways to go dark, but all that subterfuge is just the ammo that the mainstream media needs to call you a homegrown terrorist. Lets see, I have guns, grow my own food, hunt, have long term food stores, conservative republican, vote....Lets bounce that off online purchases etc, etc.

You are not guaranteed anonymity in the U.S.. At some point, you have to raise your voice. I understand OPSEC, but there's also the saying that for evil to prevail, it only takes good men doing nothing. I don't shout to the rooftops, but I will never quell my inclination to express my opinions freely. I don't tell all about preps, etc., but I WILL openly express my opinions both privately and publicly.
I've been in IT for over 40 years and I understand that you can't get on the Internet, etc., and remain truly anonymous...I, for one, don't need to. 98% of my day-to-day life is open and I could care less if it's publicly visible. I am careful about the privacy of the other 2%; the trick is to make it cost more to track that 2% than it's worth. I'm not out to overthrow any government except, maybe, by my vote."Common sense might be common but it is by no means wide spread." Mark Twain

Under a normal regime, I am with you. But for the first time in my life I truly "Fear" my government. I am not loading magazines right now in preparation for civil war or anything like that, but I just think they would be wise to NOT put themselves unnecessarily on big brothers radar, anymore than they already are. Voting is important, but the path is set for this country to really suffer. The roadmap for socialist/marxist agenda is now underway. Obamacare will cripple this nation by itself, and that is just one plan. The company that I left 6 months ago, just announced to upper management, they will carry no healthcare next year, because the fines will cost less. 1000 employees that will automatically be thrust onto the gov for healthcare. The company I am at now has made similar statements, but have not really decided to go that path yet. Cloward and Piven all over again.
They were standing behind Wild Bill when he signed the Motor voter law into effect. The left has found a way to flood the system so it breaks. Exactly as CP wanted all along.
I am just saying that unless you want an escorted trip to a FEMA sponsored reeducation camp, I wouldnt go putting yourself out there. Dont get me wrong...I love my country, but I just aint thrilled with the path it is heading. With that being said, The USA is still the best country on the planet.

At the rate Tennessee's is climbing I bet it will reach 25,000 before the week end. I highly doubt that the government will take any action because of these other than a blanket press release, but it is one avenue to voice one's opinion.
