  • Sheep, Sheepdog or Wolf?

    I just read this blog and thought it worth posting. It's lengthy but well worth the read. I think it will make you reflect about who and what you are and where you want to be, both for yourself and for those around you.

    Note from Kellene: Today, I'm going to post a different kind of recipe--a recipe for the necessary mental fortitude one must have to be properly prepared. While I love the analogy overall I should say that I don't believe that the author is correct in any inference that "all law enforcement, government security personnel, or military persons" are "sheepdogs." We all know that there's not a one of us who have ever looked up to and appreciated a TSA person, a cop who thinks he's God, or a military person who embarrasses this nation with acts that are cruel and inhumane.
    Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

      I've heard the Sheep, Sheepdog or Wolf concept before and I agree with it. I liked his ideas that people are predisposed one way or another, but ultimately it's up to each individual to act or not act on those inclinations. I did not like his insinuation that being unarmed somehow makes you a sheep or being armed makes you a sheepdog or wolf. Examples where this idea can be false would be an active shooter where the armed "sheepdog" quickly escorts his family from the area, leaving everyone else to their fate, or an unarmed "sheep" who tackles the gunman. Point being, it's a mindset not what you brought with you.

            Same here WiseOwl but we all gravitate toward one of more of these descriptions. I think many of us have sheepdog in us, especially those of us with family.

                I understand the concept & agree to a certain extent. I agree more with Will & others in that I feel no inherent need to protect anyone else except my family in an active situation. I have no problem discussing survival & be ready so maybe I'm a Shepherd.
                Survival question. What do I need most, right now?
