The Methodist church which started to allow women to be priests even lost members.

It seems people want a church that has rules and actually follows them. I tend to think once a group gets to large it starts to allow outside influences to dictate the path they take. i know i see more and more independent churches showing up. people are not leaving church permanently, but they are leaving the corporate run churches.

The wife and I left the United Church Of Christ when they started ordaining gays. I was brought up Presbyterian, but the Presbyterian Church (USA) has gotten ultra liberal as well; the church split over this and the conservatives fromed the Presbyterian Church In America (PCA).
We now live in the bible belt, and this gay stuff don't fly here, around here it's mostly Pentecostal/Independant Baptist/Southern Baptist (SBC)

I live in Asheville, NC... I think it is one of the most liberal "towns" in the country. So not all of the bible belt is part of the "Bible Belt" if you know what I mean.

I am all for your right to do want you want, up until your rights step on my rights... If you dont believe in a religion while try to tarnish it for those that do. Push for "Civil Union" or "Domestic Partnership" Status... Push those to have same legal rights as Marriage. But DONT push for Marriage... Marriage is based in religion and as such has a meaning to those of us that believe in such things and it is our right to believe that you should not be allowed to be Married, do what you want with who you want but dont try to call it Marriage. Again if you dont believe in religion then why push for a status that is based on "Religion"? It has no meaning to you, but great meaning to us, to me it seems those pushing this issue are more concerned with degrading our beliefs than they are with pushing tolerance.
