    Oh I certainly hope not...

How about better not. Else Ms Zagunis should just stay over there. WTH is up with the USOC these days? Made in China uniforms, discussing whether or not to dip our national symbol as has not been our custom since 1936?

Such a strange world these days. Are established customs and patriotism dead?

I assume not. Fox News wasn't screaming about it so I suppose that young lady did the right thing. Still stands the USOC was debating it though and that's a problem I have.

Personal pet peeve. When individuals, cities, or states declare that a "half-mast" event. According to the U.S Flag code, only the president can do that, except as prescribed in the code itself (for particualr annual observances, such as Memorial day -- on which day you are supposed to retrun the flag to full mast at noon, by the way.)

I work for a company that is flying the company flag at the same height of Old Glory. We brought it up at a safety meeting, showed our field superintendent the etiquette and he said they weren't gonna change it. We asked him why and he said 'cause I said so'! UNBELIEVABLE. The arrogance of some people nowadays is truly awe inspiring. I put in my two weeks notice. I won't work for someone like that. All a person has is their sacred honor.

Perhaps you should relax a bit and read the rules first:

When flown with flags of states, communities, or societies on separate flag poles which are of the same height and in a straight line, the flag of the United States is always placed in the position of honor - to its own right.
..The other flags may be smaller but none may be larger.
..No other flag ever should be placed above it.
..The flag of the United States is always the first flag raised and the last to be lowered.

So you see, flying an equal sized (or smaller) flag on a separate mast at the same height (or lower) is perfectly acceptable...although I prefer there to be a difference in at least the height.

And while on the subject, presidential and gubernatorial order allows the display of the flag at half staff.
A recent change to this was made by the The Army Specialist Joseph P. Micks Federal Flag Code Amendment Act of 2007, which added a provision to fly the flag at half-staff upon the death of a member of the Armed Forces from any State, territory, or possession who died while serving on active duty. It also gave the mayor of the District of Columbia the authority to direct that the flag be flown at half-staff. Federal facilities in the area covered by the governor or mayor of the District of Columbia will also fly the flag at half-staff as directed. ( Pub.L. 110−41, 121 Stat. 233, H.R. 692, enacted June 29, 2007)

Thanks for the reply. I am relaxed and know the rules. But right is right. It's disrespectful and like I said, I won't work for someone like that. I already have another job lined out with better hours which equals more time with my family. I'll stick to my guns on this one. Again, thanks.

For the people who fly the American flag at home, do you follow flag rules? Mine is un-lit and flies 24/7, rain or shine. Am I going to hell?
