  • Grand Rant - Why people will...

So as most of the OWA crew knows, I have a dog currently residing in my house. Not there by my choice, but animals sometimes have a strange way of picking you as opposed to the other way around. But how I came about this animal is the story and the rant.

On July 3rd, we got a call of a stray dog on base in someone

Bless you for taking her in anyway. I won't get started on how often dogs are thrown out in our area. I've never understood how people can just throw them out and abuse them. What enjoyment can one possible get from beating an animal? Makes no sense to me.

Has she been around kids? I've got a male guard dog that's a german shepherd. Might have a spot in our family for her.

A little bit. Mostly in Petsmart and seemed to do okay. She's a little people shy until I give her the okay to make friends. After that it's all I can do to control her lol

I told him i'd take her but I was afraid my pug will kill her :) Face it there hardcore survivalist tier 1 military type you have a heart and now you have a dog. Scumsuckers always put us in those positions even before PAW and the choices get even harder after PAW. Whatya thinks gonna happen when it's abandoned hungry kids that show up?
The worst part of my past jobs are the deployments and radio calls and mental things I still deal with from children and what i've seen. Once the SHTF the hardest part just like when deployed is not becoming "them", "that" "what you hunt". We must somehow think outside the box for solutions and keep true to who/what we are.

BTW how do you think I ended up with a pug? Heart brother, nothing but heart, seriously look at me, do i look like a pug owner?

I am not geographically close, or I'd offer, that reminds so much of our first border collie, who is at my feet right now, she was abandoned at the Ocala Nat. Forest. many ticks, starving and a stomach abcess. At 18 months I snapped a plantaris tendon darting to an open gate to keep the horses in, fell flat on my face, couldn't even crawl for about 15 seconds, I'm sure you've felt that kind of pain before. That Little black dog with very little "Ownership" of the farm stood in the gateway and turned the horses. She wouldn't let them out PERIOD. My mind was made up then. She has a home FOREVER! she is now 12, getting up there for a Border, but she now OWNS every Cow, Donkey, Goat or kid that comes on the farm, she is fair and very even handed but puts up with NO BS! no leaving the gate, no fighting in the pastures, no abuse of young,, anything, heck she even protects the cats from our new border collie. She also owns My Goldwing, Gator, Four wheelers, cars and trucks but I am allowed to drive her around in/on all of them! She is allowed to sleep at the foot of the bed but she is not allowed in the house at other times, The Man Hole (man cave) Is where her Domain begins.
I do not understand the abuse side of life. Spoiled Rotten (in the bad way, my g-babies will be in the good way) little minded sh**s. I see it in some of my students and it does go hand in hand with poor performance, behavior and self respect. ALSO the nut doesn't fall far from the tree!!
I should say I looked at my calendar and the 5th was.... Anyway,
Good Luck to you and your new Best Friend!!
PS. I think I might see a new S&P mascot in the making. JRH Doggie BOB Model maybe??

That's why I currently own 13 sugar gliders :-) I have a really hard time saying no to a neglected or abused animal.
I think we will likely see alot more abuse and neglect of animals as well as children as the world gets worse. Folks who are under stress tend to be a lot less rational. Unfortunately they often leave a mess behind for folks like us to clean up.
You have a big heart Grand, and I'm so glad you are an OWA!

I had to sit for a moment and regain my stoic composure. I am happy to see proof that I am not alone in being a ****** for those deep brown (or whatever color) eyes of a critter in distress. Why even as I sit here, I can go out onto the porch and cast my eyes on damned near every critter that has taken up residence here. And every damned one of them were rescues or just looking for a home.

Horses, donkey, mini horses, sheep, dog, and cats. Loads of cats!

But I would never have it any other way. Here they are safe, loved, and cared for.

As long as I live that will ever be so.
                            I am a free man!

                            I always was.

                            I always will be.

I have always advised my children not to mistake having manners and being polite as being a sign of weakness. An individual with strength and confidence in him/herself will naturally be mannered and gracious to others.

Bless you Grand for opening your home and your heart to the critter. If she is like the Shepard's I'm familiar with, you might as well get used to her- no one can resist those loving eyes for long! Hmmmmm..... ya know, she might just be smelling a hint of Deutschland on you; if so, you will NEVER get rid of her, LOL!

I truly hope there is a special level of Hell for people who abuse and neglect animals; there is not, cannot be, an acceptable reason for that kind of behavior. There are too many people and organizations that will assume the responsibility for the care of animals whose owners can no longer provide for them.
