Both the wife and I are 31, been prepping for about a year and a half now. Have 4 small kiddos (oldest is 5) so we have lots of work to storing up for all of us. Needless to say, given our family makeup we would most likely be bugging in and defending the home unless absolutely impossible. Anybody have any insight/good suggestions for items to look for or strategies to improve the "fortification" of the home?

Tank, you asked, a couple of pages back, what led us into prepping. Well, never mind the end of the world scenarios, we got into it because of an oath that my father, my son and I have all taken. To us it is every bit as binding and enduring as our wedding vows. We anticipate societal and/or economic collapse precipitated intentionally or otherwise by the BHO regime.

We're jealous! You've got a stop light in your town!....chuckle....

Hehe...I remember when my son was that young...

...anyhoo, Wife and I are in the 45-50 range. I was brought up "prepping," although we just thought it was normal at the time. You know, gardening, canning, raising and butchering animals, digging out a fallout shelter...the usual. Time in the military really limited things, but once out we found a nice area and got the ball rolling again. Almost finished consuming some of the y2k preps lol

Yep. Nationalization here we come! Now that Obamacare has passed start keeping your eyes open for legislation, similar to what happened in Argentina a couple of years ago, being proposed to nationalize the private and public retirement system with the excuse that Wall Street is too risky a way to invest your hard earned money. Let the government do it. Actually there has been legislation proposed to do this but so far it has died in committee every time....so far.

We're in W. Michigan, in the "Burbs" of a large city. I'd like to be further out, if finances permitted.

I started prepping after a local radio station changed their format. They canned their local morning crew and started carrying Glen Beck. At first I thought he was just another wacko "Deputy Downer".
But like HE SAYS... "Don't believe me, DO your OWN research!"

So I did.... and said "YIKES!! There's some bad crap on the horizon!!"
