First of all, this doesn't even compare to the hardships of those in Virginia and D.C.. My prayers go out to all of them.
The temperature at the house went up to 107 in the sun and 103 in the shade today. The kicker, my A.C. had been out since Thursday. We had a 1 year inspection scheduled for today (the unit was replaced a year ago) so we thought it should be fixed. The bad news, they worked on it from 1pm to 8:30pm and it's still not working.
Now, that's a reason to have a backup system. Ours is a camper with a 5500w genset and A.C. with a 40 gallon gas tank. The downside, it was in the shop having the hydraulics worked on. The upside, we got a call at 1pm that it was ready to be picked up. Needless to say, I rushed over and brought it home. After being without A.C. for about two days, I now sit here in a balmy 75 degrees. It does pay to have a backup plan.
Now, it's been over 100 in Oklahoma and many other places for a week plus. What's your backup plan if the A.C. goes out (or if the power goes out). I know there's a thread on acclimating, but what about any young children or older folks that might be in your immediate or extended family or friends? I know in a true PAW, A.C. is a luxury we'd have to learn to live without, but what about in the present days?
I know my backup plan is definitely short-term but I also know that I could live without A.C. if necessary.
