  • Interesting weekend

First of all, this doesn't even compare to the hardships of those in Virginia and D.C.. My prayers go out to all of them.

The temperature at the house went up to 107 in the sun and 103 in the shade today. The kicker, my A.C. had been out since Thursday. We had a 1 year inspection scheduled for today (the unit was replaced a year ago) so we thought it should be fixed. The bad news, they worked on it from 1pm to 8:30pm and it's still not working.
Now, that's a reason to have a backup system. Ours is a camper with a 5500w genset and A.C. with a 40 gallon gas tank. The downside, it was in the shop having the hydraulics worked on. The upside, we got a call at 1pm that it was ready to be picked up. Needless to say, I rushed over and brought it home. After being without A.C. for about two days, I now sit here in a balmy 75 degrees. It does pay to have a backup plan.

Now, it's been over 100 in Oklahoma and many other places for a week plus. What's your backup plan if the A.C. goes out (or if the power goes out). I know there's a thread on acclimating, but what about any young children or older folks that might be in your immediate or extended family or friends? I know in a true PAW, A.C. is a luxury we'd have to learn to live without, but what about in the present days?

I know my backup plan is definitely short-term but I also know that I could live without A.C. if necessary.

Now you're making me wish we had not gotten rid of our camper. Though we didn't have a choice at the time due to finances.

There's a restriction somewhere in the coolant flow. Another one's back today trying to find it. They purged all the coolant out yesterday and re-pressurized it to no avail. The guy today actually is doing a more thorough job of troubleshooting IMO. It's not that complicated a system....you would think. But, then again, if I knew that much about it I'd fix it myself. For one thing, I don't have the specialized tools and it is under warranty.
It is nice to have a backup system, though.

Well, they got it fixed about 3pm on Sunday. The long and short of it, faulty installation. The O-ring on one of the connections to the furnace coil was put in wrong and was restricting the coolant flow. The two techs (and I use the term loosly) that were there on Saturday didn't find it. The guy that showed up on Sunday found it in about an hour. A trip to his shop to get the O-ring and then purge/refil the coolant and we were back in business. Needless to say, we didn't get much else done last weekend. The good news is that it was all covered under the warranty.
