WASHINGTON - The storms that ravaged the WTOP listening area Friday night have left more than a million customers without electricity and five dead as crews clear roads, try to restore power and brace for another round of storms Saturday night. The governments of Virginia and D.C. have declared a state of emergency. President Barack Obama called the governors of Maryland and Virginia offering federal assistance.

Now they are saying up to 3 million withput power. I'd say S has HTF

Rmpl & family are up and somewhat back to normal... Power restored late last night and pnhone/internet just a few hours ago... Excellent service by the work crews in this brutal heat! Hat's off to them...

I have to say, that was one WIERD and WICKED storm!!! Came in fast & furious, with easily hurricane-force winds in bands. The scariest looking clouds and sky I had ever seen with all the lightning back-lighting from above. It felt like it was alive, groaning, grumbling and moaning... I thought for sure a tornado was coming at times... Definetly a slap in face back to our reality of helplessness in such a storm... Preps or no preps...

After the storm, preps kicked in and worked exactly as planned... Had the RV too... Lots of debris and limbs down, but YHWH protected all or stuff, including my truck and our RV that was under our big trees for shade in normal times... Ran out into the storm to move my truck, but RV was where it was. Huge limbs all around it, but it was untouched. Thank you, YHWH!

Still a lot of people without power, some serious damage, and 7 or more lost their lives in VA alone...

Glad to hear the Rmpl Fam is ok.

Had several opportunities to explain why having a generator with fuel storage is a SMART thing, as I was loaning them my Honda 2000i so their food wouldn't spoil. Had the larger genny running at my house so a/c and water pump would work...

I got family in maryland and all i heard from them was "wahhhhhh wahhhhhh wahhhh" & "fix my stuff nowwwww"...So it gave me an opportunity to point out to them that they shouldn't rely on the system for everything...told them to get a genny, which they responded with we don't have $400 for one yet they have been thru more smart phones than carter's got pills. can't get thru some people...they were able to go to another relatives house where the power was on and ac was running and they were still complaining....i told them to be thankful that they had somewhere to go!! still nothing but whining and griping coming out of them...ungrateful to say the least...wanted to reach thru the phone and slap them!!!

This family member had a tornado come through last year and took out their fence and shed with high winds and they were without power for a couple days then...that was their warning and now when a storm takes out an even larger area they are still whining and complaining...

Don't get me wrong I have empathy for the people that are impacted but sympathy I don't have for them, especially this family member.

@Rmpl - you are the bright spot in this situation for me!! Thank you for sharing your genny with those that you did and for being on this forum to share your story.

Some more feedback now that I am back at work, listening to all the stories...
1. It boggles my mind that a man making almost mid-six figures a year, who lives in a rural McMansion, does not have a GENERATOR... So instead has to drive his food into town to use the work fridges so his food doesn't go bad, then lives in a hotel...
2. Lots of people wealthy enough to have generators and storm supplies did not... Roaming too and fro looking for gas and food...
3. Lots of miserable people still without power... But many of them were sucking it up unless asked how they faired...

We had some trees and limbs down we lost power for a day. Was planning on going out of town for the weekend anyway so we left after the storm and came back last night. Went to West VA, it was not alot better but we had a decent time.
They are saying that power won't be on to all the people until this weekend.
