  • Zoo Animals

This discussion goes along with others we have had on strays, dumped animals, whats really on the menu and is right up there with "I am Legend". Shortly after the disatser or SHTF it might not be a hungry terrier but a polar bear, one of the few that activley hunts man or another exotic animals from a zoo, hunting ranch etc.
I remember a few weeks ago when I was in my 20s a guy let all his exotics go because he couldnt afford to feed them. So a cougar, bear and lion were set free.
The wild hog that was set free, by him, turned out to be crazier than most and attacked my mothers car and the neighbors truck doing minor damage.
I also hunted a place in western Oklahoma one time where the guy told me not to shoot the wild Emu that was running around his place.

This is something to think on beforehand so your mind can work thru the OODA loop while you look a zebra in your tulips. It's also something to study and do your homework on for vitals. A quatersize brain shot on a gator head or a fist size shot on an elephant brain doesnt leave much room for error and neither of them mad and wounded would be ideal.

BTW how would you like to have been the low man on the totem pole and told to go into the zoo and find the missing animals armed with nothing but your plastic flashlight? RHP

Good point. I live within 15 miles of a nature preserve. Hell, a lion, a bear and a tiger share the same damn cage. They have some vicious beasts there. There is a gun range about a mile from there though.
I am sure the members (from what I have heard in the distance while we were there with the kids) have some BIG guns to put these beasts down.
My buddy has a farm/ homestead a couple of miles from there and I know that boy would have some tiger in his smokehouse pronto.

I thought about this too today when I read about the floods in Minn. Damn polar bear is not to be messed with!
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

When I was a child, our home was less than a half mile from the city zoo.
During the spring and early summer we would keep the windows open to enjoy the breeze.
I can vividly remember hearing the lions roar in the early morning on weekends - feeding time, when there was not as much traffic noise.
Now I knew they were in cages, but I can remember imagining how scary that must have sounded to the native people where lions came from, especially if they had no guns to protect themselves.
As a child I was always reassured in the knowledge that my Daddy always had a loaded gun in the house to protect us, just in caes the lion's got out.

It wasn't much more than 2 years ago some Ar. homesteader got up in the morning, stepped out on his front porch to check the weather and out of the woods steps 3 African male lions! Needless to say he moved fast, grabbed his rifle and put 2 down, third ran to the woods, Called local game and fish guys who finally wandered out and discovered the homesteader was NOT a meth head having hallucinations! Apparently just down the road was a lion rescue place who had turned away a "donation" of 4-5 lions the day before so it looked like the donator just turned the lions loose in the woods and left on his merry way. They finally tracked down and got the remaining lions. You may not have to wait for a SHTF situation for something like this to happen in your front yard! No I can't find my link to the story right now.

Yes here is a link but it was 4 years ago
