  • how tall do you stand? tall as a goose?

the flock of geese came, stayed and left.. all but 2 that kept hanging around.
i didn't know why they didn't fly off with the others. after a few days
we started seeing, mom, dad and 2 little uns.

mom and dad protected the little uns. they didn't fly off when i came by with the
mower or truck. they ran, but no faster than the little uns. one of them would stay between
    me and the littleuns.

the little uns are growing fast. but no wings to speak of. can't fly.
the mom and dad can be airborne in no time.

we have varmints. fox that we've seen. coyote are in the area.

the geese stay hidden or out in the open with wide view of area.

2 days ago only one adult was seen. both little uns still here.
today i found scattered adult feathers out in the open area.

we don't know what happened. didn't see it. but
it appears sneaky varmint went after the geese. dad stayed and mom
and little uns ran. let's just say dad took on the fox/coyote to save his bride and
    kids.

mr. gander had already decided what he'd do if the evil came after his family.
he had nothing to decide at the last minute.

how tall will i stand? how tall will your neighbor stand? you? tall as mr. gander?

Mr. Gander knew what was right and did what it took to keep the family safe. Unfortunately, we already see the father of many families leave the flock and times haven't even gotten tough.

    Thanks for the post....

But there are still some of us (I assume at least most of us here) that would do whatever it takes without hesitation to protect our families no matter what the cost. It's sad to see so many one-parent families out there. I gues a commentary on how far our 'civilization' has 'progressed'.

somewhere i posted my "greek qustion" that i asked a lot of men....

about a year or so ago there was a big march in athens greece. thousands of folks marching down the street.
they saw a big bank and figured the bank was the cause of their problems and they set fire to it.
the fire dept. came but the crowd wouldn't let the fire dept. get close enough to put the fire out.
a man, a lady and a pregnant lady all died in the fire.
this really bothered me... greeks, the beginning of writing, reading and arithmetic, walking on their hind legs,
setting fire to a bank in their home town, burning their neighbors.
i began to wonder could it happen here.
then i began to wonder, what would i have done, if i'd seen this unfolding on tv and i saw my neighbor in the window of the bank which was on fire.
would i go to help her. would i go to help my wife?
would i shoot my way through the crowd?
would i drive my truck throught the crowd?
i've made my decision on these questions.

          but here's the troublesome part...
i asked this scenario of a few hundred men.
most feared for their life and felt that it would be wrong for
their family to lose two adults.

the portion of the population that gave a "yes, you better believe i'd go after my wife." answer
          were the older men.
          i quit asking the question.
you try it among the men at your church, work, neighbors.

the majority of men do not stand as tall as a goose.

you men who responded. i tip my hat and say congratulations to your wives and children.

The men that say 'yes' are the same type of men that built this great country. Those men stood between their family, community and country and the tyrany that was threatening. The men that say 'yes' are the ones that fight and die (now and in the past) for our freedom. Those men that say 'yes' are the ones that run towards the bullets, fire (firemen) or screams for help (police).

All of us that say 'yes' but have never been put in the position to have to put it on the line can only steel ourselves for the day, and pray to God to give us that strenght of character to do the right thing when the time comes. And also pray that the time does not have to come for that type of action.

A few years ago during the Rodney King tension the fire dept I worked for informed us that we were going to start some training on how to use the fire hoses on crowds...I informed the PTB that I would comply with the orders to train BUT if the crowds were just marching and voicing their gripes I will refuse to be a part of such missdeeds....If the crowds are being destructive then we are going to be too busy fighting fires and rescue to resort to such tactics... That is the police's job!

since there's been a death in the neighborhood...
i've been keeping an eye on the family.
                mom is nervous.
i've tried to approach them with no luck.
but.. i've put out chicken feed several times from a distance and
                realized mom is watching..
15 minutes later she'll take the kids and go get some free groceries.

on a more serious note i've discussed this heroism with several friends.
i've been surprised with a response...
"well, each person has to decide what is right for them."
                or
"you've got to understand that maybe the dad has 5 kids back home and
to risk his life to save his wife could mean that the kids would have no mom or dad."

the last one was from an active Christian lady. both the above responses surprised me.
i thought the Book taught that the farmer would leave his whole flook in peril while he went to rescue the one lost animal.

i regretfully now believe that this attitude of it's all about me has permeated the Church.
i understand better why so few men told me that they would rescue their wives when i asked the "greek question"

                  Powerful and Telling, for sure.
I am questioning my choice of not prepping for my adult son (28) and his wife.
Prolly should for the step and grandbabies sake!!

Without a doubt/reservation my wife comes first and would be saved in the "Greek Q", I am pretty sure she would be p-o'ed but grateful. I have no doubt she would run into a bldg for most anyone. she's a REAL trooper!
I have witnessed two seperate situations of public beatings in which, I was with good christian family members and was told not to get involved, then scolded afterward for risking myself to help a stranger.
I find it hard to believe my own kin, who were brought up in the same church and manner as me, would cower or turn a blind eye to the issue at hand. I don't think it was the church in this case, but, society that made the change in them.
We ALL used to be appalled that people in cities would stand and watch or speed by a robbery or beating!!!

I feel Ithe need to say, I am NOT Billy B A and didn't step in swinging nor did I "go for the carry", I just stepped in and did some seperating, let them know authorities were coming, same as I do with school kid fights. Never really felt threatened or afraid.
