Tonights show commentary, still not that impressed but it was some better:
The Alaskan uses 5gal of water a day 6000 calories when it's serious cold and your working. A far cry from the prepacked 1000 calorie meals for a year they sell and the recommended 1gl per person per day huh?
Boy bout messed up with that fuel from the snowmobile and open flame huh? Living thataway is some different, maybe like post EMP or greece next week? Added dangers of using open fire for everything, something to think on.
He shows some good techniques for baiting traps, watching for sign and stuff.
Wolf/bear country aint no joke, we aint the top of the food chain like it says! Get a 10mm G-Lock fool!

Northern Valley Montana Old Man - Trappin to keep Giardia down on the water source, now thats a new one and yet another reason to trap and have traps. That fellers getting long in the tooth to be trappin in ice. Hope i'm doing that good when I hit 30 like him hahahaha
He had a neat skinning deal where he layed them beavers in to work on'em.
So a feller with traps eats (beaver), help his neighbor and gets paid with a hunt (duck) for his work which means he gets to eat again, hmm

Carolina makes alot of useful stuff with the wood and uses it to it's fullest extent. His helper can't see the skill level in making shingles from split logs and then learning how to lay them and recycling things because his pride is in the way, whinin bout grunt work. Thats serious skill stuff but he cant see it. I aint seen that for 35 yrs and was in SE Okla. That grunt work is skill sets boy, aint everyone can cut trees, fill orders for your trade-see the difference between bosses n labor (aka business), lay shingles, sharpen/grease chainsaws, etc etc. Cause even "Mt Men" gotta work and live just like everyone else has since the beginning son. Ungrateful snot nose tick turd, kick a can on down the road then boy!
Them folks need a barber, hmm maybe barter barber skills?!? Say that 3 times fast, "barter barber skills" LOL
Yes, if n you dont pay your taxes they will take your land. He says "I'm ready to die for this land" Why "die" and go thru all the drama, just pay the taxes, duh. Back to skills cause we all got bills!!!

I saw tonights show and a little of last weeks but it seemed ok.

The trapper in the Alaskan bush has a decent setup except for his ancient snow machine that kept crappin out on him in -40 degree weather. He's got a big hole in his preps when all he can do is change the spark plug!?! And each time it quits running thats all he knows to do? If he keeps that up he's gonna end up lookin like Hatchet Jack.

Like you said Matt the old dude in Montana is kinda old to be out trappin but I gotta admit he's got sand.

The hippie mountain man in North Carolina is another story. What exactly does he do? I see he's got some guy living with him as a helper but who were the other hippies helping cut firewood? I saw a blond girl with dreadlocks. Is it some kind of commune? And the whole cutting firewood to sell so he could pay his taxes and save the mountain seemed made up to make it more interesting. I saw two trees cut down by Eustace but the hippies were just throwing dead logs and brush around, there was no limbing, bucking or splitting. Just a guy handing him what looked like a couple hundred dollars and the day was saved.

The whole show jumped around so much it was hard for me to stay interested but I don't watch very much TV.

I guess I need to see a few more episodes before I pass judgement.

He claimed to have over 200 hammers and he had about 20 chainsaws, sell a few of them and pay the taxes

I don't know why Eustace was complaining, he has summer camps and workshops that people pay to go to. I am looking at taking my son in a couple of years. I think he is playing into the drama of the show

Other than that I like the show. These guys live it to the fullest.

In the first show, he said he had eight people living on the mountain with him. Including a family of four. The show is just now getting around to showing them.

Eustace is a friend of a friend. His whole area up there is geared towards the hippie/motherEarth crowd. 20 years ago, legend has it eustace was a bada$$. He built his whole community up there taking at risk youth from richie rich families and putting them to work. He would take their shoes at night and tell them...You can leave if you want, but where he is located it some major nasty rocks. He taught my friend how to tan a deer hide about 7 years ago, when my friend showed up the deer was dead, but there wasnt a mark on it. Eustace told my buddy that he trapped it with baling wire. I actually stumbled on that show and was surprised when I learned it was him. In my mind, I had pictured a much different person.

@tarheelsman71 - The following is not meant as disrespect just observation.

Eustace claims the rifle misfired, in reality the scope/rifle wasn't sighted in properly, big diff between misfire and missing the kill shot. He ended up wounding the animal and was unable to track & kill it. Eustace had Justin sight in his rifle...that would be like me having MIO sight in my rifle...the way i hear it MIO can't shoot (JK MIO). The point is though you can't have someone else sight in your weapon and expect it to be on target for you. Eustace, IMO, is wrong to blame justin. If it's Eustace's weapon and Eustace is the one that will be shooting it, then its his responsibility to sight it in.

I'm done, saw so much fake stuff last night it's crazy, very disappointing. Wolves that dont exist, gonna run outta food even though everything else in the house is storebought, ran the Mt Lion off just by taking a horseback ride, pulling a truck on a road with horses so it can be towed by a tow truck. Falcons that cant hunt, can use a modern day chain saw but not a tape measure and everything is being eaten by a bear, all drama, little skill, claiming titles

When his ski- mobile broke down I was just waiting on him to pat his pants pockets a couple of times and say "damn not only did I forget any type of firearm, but I cant find those gosh darn spark plugs"

yeah, its gotten ridiculous. Back to Braves games on Thursday nights

I wasn't impressed from the get go. Seems like this show is like so many others that are pre-scripted and dramatized like Pawn Stars, Repo Men, etc....Too bad. Despite questioning the wisdom of preppers sharing their insights and plans with the public we do enjoy Doomsday Preppers.

Two new drama shows coming this fall that look interesting. "Last Resort" is one that looks intriguing. Here's a trailer from it.

I'm having brain fade and can't remember the other show at the moment.

I was done after I finally did get to see the first episode. The guy in WY got on my nerves. Last straw was him letting the dog out when they suspected a bear in the back yard. Earlier he had been worried when she wandered off that she was going to get eaten by a bear. So that night he just throws the door open wide and lets her run out to be a midnight snack to a bear. Also wasn't impressed with the guy in AK.

I was in and out watching this the other night so I tried to watch it again this morning and I couldn't make it 15 mins.
It seems like a weak lineup now that the characters are developing.

I want to see some real Jeremiah Johnson men. Do they even exist anymore? If I wasn't doing the Al Bundy, I would love to give it a good college try.
