And a lot of people legitimately need meds. With some however they could get off of them (anti depressants, etc) and they SHOULD get off of them ahead of time. I watched friends that were totally "with it" become more and more disconnected from LIFE over a period of time on crap like that. Stupid mistakes that can injure people happen very easy when your walking around out of it most of the time.

I agree with a lot of what's been said here. You can't trust your nieghbors after something catastrophic. That's exactly why the wife and I will be heading for seclusion. We also realize that we can't pull security 24/7 with just the two of us plus the increased labor of post whatever living. I think it is right to attempt to fix things in your community now.( become a mayor or commissioner etc) By all means though, when it comes down to the nitty gritty, your nieghbors will slit your throat when their kids are crying cause they're hungry. If you can't morally turn your back, stock up extra and leave it behind with a note. In my opinion though, you'd be better off getting as far away as you can from populated areas. Like I've said before, look at what happens when people don't get their nuggets at McDonalds, fights and chaos, calling 911. Over nuggets! What do you think is gonna happen if they can't get their check? Something to think about.

            I do.;p

See, while the majority of people are not made of $$$. Many are living a financial driven life over a life with in their means. How many are trapped by debt, high mortgage payments etc. Because of bad choices. Now. i fully understand there is somethings that are out of a persons control that cause some of these issues.
The issue is there is a large amount of "preppers" that are in that money built love boat. That once the economy started to fizzle finally woke up. But not after buying a new car every 3 years or re-financing the house for a 3rd time so their could go on a cruise to some sandy beach. It was an after thought to become prepared.
So, we have a class of "preppers" who for all intentions COULD have moved to a better location but CAN NOT now due to debt and wanting to have it "all".

Im jaded when this comes up, so folks dont take it wrong. But we became debt free on sub 30k per year on a single income, we paid off two cars, CC debt(6 time snow iirc), student loans you name it, and all willing we'll be closing on a location better suited for survivability. .When i see someone who is now a "prepper" making 2-4 times that amount say they "CANT" move or cant XYZ. I sit back and go,,well BOB...you got that 2010 Tahoe, your wife drives a new mustang, you have a 4 year old boat, a 250K home a 80x80 lot 4 mins outside of a town of 175K.....ipads,Iphones and laptyops for your 5,8, 13 yr old.....well YOU COULD have if you didnt fall into that money trap.
Agian..this isnt aimed at anyone or those trying . Then agian...i see a bunch of threads on most "prepper" forums about how " when shtf comes do i have to pay the bank......" so who knows.

Sorry for the derail and not trusting people.

I trust my family and a few guys on here with my families life and mine...sides that if i dont KNOW, and i mean KNOW you....i dont trust you, even more so when the ballon goes up and we all become part of t eh food chain more or less LOL

Just like the Biblical story of Joseph. They put up corn in the good years to see them through the 7 bad years.

I'm sure Joseph's prophecy was not "hid under a bushel." I'm sure it caused so much buzz that word got around. The most powerful man in Egypt believed it and backed it up by making the stockpile of grain a law.

When then did the people have to sell their cattle, their land and finally themselves to eat? Certainly any one of them could have heeded the same advice and put back a little during the 7 years of plenty.

Nope, they probably did exactly what most of the U.S. did during the last "7 years of plenty" aka 2000 through 2007, they probably said "hey it's a good year, we have double the corn we normally do- LET'S EAT TWICE AS MUCH THIS YEAR! After a few years they were fat, happy and then some time later they were cry babying cause they had nothing left to work with.

IMO, God has given our country numerous, numerous warnings over the 26 years I've been preparing. Most recent ones people will recognize: 9/11, Katrina, housing bubble, gas prices, financial collapse, earthquakes, wars and rumors of wars, etc.

If we ate double the corn in the good years instead of putting some up for the bad years, we have NO ONE TO BLAME BUT OURSELVES.

Their is that terrible word again..... responsibility.

I know people that make sub $20K a year that are better prepared than some that make $200K a year and always complain they don't have money to prep. Priorities. People will always do what they REALLY want to do.

I took a helluva drop in income when we moved to the country. So much so we had to start another business just to make it. I made considerably less than $10K the first year we moved to the country. All while having a new baby. Over the course of a couple years I rebuilt our income from scratch. Now we benefit GREATLY from living where we live both in today's terms and if something ever does happen. It would have never been possible without the sacrifice though.

I think "community" will be our downfall and our savior. If things get bad, then for a while "community" will be a bane to those of us who are civilized. Then later, the bad apples will either kill each other off or conform to a "new normal". Then we who are of right mind will begin the process of putting the pieces back together. We must prep for the time in-between normal and new normal. We have a small community of like minded folks who will be together for this time and then we hope to be ready to rejoin the world after it cools down a bit. I think community is just like diversity. Both are good things to embrace, as long as you embrace the strong points and kick the garbage to the curb.

I agree with you Potus. Patriot Lady and me have always paid close attention to what's going on around us but had not thought of taking more than minimal steps(maybe more than the average citizen)until a few years ago. We've never carried much debt other than our home so we're not as bound to our location as some. Once we unload this home we're in we're outa here! Next home, hopefully, will be our dream BOL!

Ibetiny- your post made me think of what the father said in "Panic in the year zero." The mother was doing the typical why are we doing this, why are we surviving when others won't, blah blah blah. The father said "when civilization gets civilized again, then we'll rejoin them."

Good thoughts ibetiny. We've never been social animals so we welcome the seclusion we are looking for, while looking forward to connecting with fellow good guy preppers!

I like Lowdown's thoughts on Joseph. Patriot Lady and I have had the same thoughts. Our worry is how long the "7 years" will last before the bottom falls out.

I'm one of those who "already lives there", I'm in the country outside of a town of 2500. At least an hour away from any city with a population over 40000. Like I said before though I won't trust my neighbors. We have enough here to make it and when the time comes enough at the BOL to make it as well. The BOL is even more secluded than where we live now. We've made sacrifices a plenty, niether of us wear expensive clothes, we don't have that new jumbo flat screen, the 250k house, or the cruises or vacations to Disney. We do have food though and the means to feed and protect our kids post whatever's gonna come down. I bought the house I live in with the sweat off my back and my wife's help. It was built in '34. We didn't bite off the 30 yr note at $1300 a month. We'be had to hear criticism and things from our families saying we need to fix up our house and add this and that. It keeps the rain off our heads thank God and I do evey day. I bought my BOL land with the same sweat and any local that thinks he's gonna keep me off my land better pack a sack lunch and bring a flashlight!

MIAMI — Newly released surveillance video shows three bicyclists pedaling past a naked man as he attacks a homeless man, biting into his face in broad daylight alongside a busy causeway.

THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT! Remember- "community! Community! Community!" CERTAINLY some 'good neighbor' there of his was going to RESCUE HIM right?

Would you have stopped? Naked man eating another man's face... There's really only one outcome to that and that's what happened. However in today's world it's a crapshoot as to whether a member of the unwashed masses will be vilified or given a heroes welcome for involving themselves in a situation like this. It's a shame society has gotten to a place where doing the right thing carries the risk of judgement from others that weren't there.
