  • NYC Education!

Good to see the youth of America are in the good hands of our public educators (shaking head). Where would we be without those fine intelligent folks (teacher unions).

To bad the teacher in N.C. (you know, "don't disrespect Obama" teacher) is on paid leave right now. But I'm sure she would be all for this as well.

If this is only one school and stops there, I don't have a problem with it. If it's a start to a trend (which I'm worried about), then I think it's extremely dangerous. My son took Spanish all through middle/high school and it served him well. Here is a large Hispanic population here and I can see where it's usefull. Arabic, not so much.

Learning a second language is good. This will enable those kids to communicate with people who speak only Arabic. Learning a new language does not mean those kids are being indoctrinated into their beliefs. It's just another language and not something to be feared.
I'd be happy to be able to understand and speak Arabic. Then I would be able to understand what those folks are saying.

We are about the only education system in the so called civilized countries that dont have an across the board mandatory second language. I think learning a second language is a good thing. However i'm not to sure about Arabic but that is up to those parents to be active and responsible in the school board and meetings so unwanted things dont get pushed by others with agendas that ARE willing to devote the time and energy. It boils down to folks just packing the kids up and sending them on their way and washing their hands of responsibilty not the "ohh look what they are doing" liberals who got their agenda passed. Second languages will help the children in a growing global economy.
I personally believe we should be spending more time learning Chinese!
I speak Spanish and my son speaks Japanese. We sought the education on our own. My wife because of her job, is able to speak multiple languages, not fluently though.
Being fluent in another language opens many doors!

Knowing a second language is a good thing. Knowing Arabic is a good thing in a know your enemy kind of way. The only problem is there are so many dialects, it is still going to be difficult to communicate. Just like Chinese. Which has many dialects as well.
