  • Anyone heard of the "dutch government collapsing?"

    Somehow I started getting these emails, most are really out there. Anywhoo, got this yesterday-

    Dutch Government Collapsed and Greece Unemployment 50% Among Young
    Dr. Stan Monteith and Bob Chapman (International Forecaster.com)
    30 April 2012 "When the Euro collapses, you have two weeks to get out of the dollar before it collapses" [Fromm]
    "The Dutch government collapsed (April 30 2012)"
    "There's very little news in the media about Europe - about anything"
    "Unemployment is 50% among young people in Greece"
    "In Spain 23 or 24% unemployment rate"
    "Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) currency collapsed"

    Dutch gubmint "collapsed?" ????

    AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--The Dutch caretaker government has reached agreement with opposition parties on the final details of an austerity package for 2013 that was outlined last month.
    "We are done," Finance Minister Jan Kees De Jager said on his Twitter account early Wednesday morning. The package will be sent to parliament before the end of May, he added.
    The Dutch government collapsed last month because of disagreement within the coalition over proposed austerity measures. Caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte then clinched a deal with three opposition parties on a package that should slash the country's deficit to 3% of the gross domestic product next year. The package was agreed in two days, but the final details still had to be worked out among political parties.

    I'm pretty sure that a couple of years ago they went a year or two without a government, and got along fine.


    Also, this article explains Dutch politics a lil' bit, shows how they have an unstable system:

    The Dutch elect only their legislative bodies; all executives are nominated by the Crown.
    Dutch elections are based on proportional representation. A party that gets 7% of the national vote gets 7% of the seats in national parliament. It does not matter where these votes were cast; there are no electoral districts.
    Proportional representation allows small parties to be represented in parliament, which is generally considered a Good Thing. The downside is that no party ever gets a majority by itself; in order to form a stable government, several parties will have to form a coalition.

      They did. I remember it was a somewhat non-issue as the monarchy has control over the cabinet and day to day decision making when a cabinet is not formed, but no control over the legislature. But the legislature has limited control over decision making, but appoints a regent when one is not apparent...very odd political situation over there.

      The system works for them I guess and nobody gave it a second thought in Europe at the time. It was just something that "was."

      Biggest thing to watch over in Europe is the collapse of the Euro. Not the way we all are thinking, but by one of the larger backers pulling out and calling it quits. Germans aren't real big on the Euro and never have been. They liked their Deutschmarks and never really bought into the whole Euro idea. They did like the fact of being able to go anywhere and never have to exchange cash, but they are not real hip to the idea of bailing out other nations (notably Greece) that can't/won't economically sustain the process. And I might even think they will pull out eventually if/when other nations continue to collapse and they get called in to provide more economic packages. And if they go, there goes the Euro.
      Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

        Iceland went bankrupt in 2008. Greece will be next...runs on the banks this week. Who knows who will be after that?
        Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

            I've heard that before, but what exactly does it mean??? "Get out of the dollar" to go where? another currency? gold? bonds? rice and bullets?
            For some of us, not many years away from retirement, this is damn scary! The thought of my very small IRA account completely disappearing - Yikes!!

                    I have a cousin that is living "abroad" and teaching in Spain. Teaching English. Man if there is something wrong I can't tell through him and his pics. Yeah, him and some guys all live in a small apartment but they eat very good and party nightly. They have some serious dance clubs. He told me, " Its nuts, you can go to these and be completely sober and have the time of your life".

                    But, I dont know if he is in a bad part of town or not. Somewhere in Madrid.

                    He just signed on for another year. I try to tell him to keep me updated on the situation but he is living it up at the moment. I asked him if something "collapse-wise" happened what would he do and he told me "Mom, will have me on a private jet if need be to get me home."

                      WiseOwl let's hope there's a jet to get him home. It's just like here where many folks are oblivious to what's going on around them. As long as they have their beer(nothing wrong with one once in a while)and parties they don't care about anything else.
