As the weather is getting better and we are getting out more camping, hiking and just enjoying being outside, a reminder that the wildlife is coming out more as well. Found the remains of this guy in my terrace beds where it wasn't less than 24 hours before.





Looks to be a normal king snake, but I'm not going looking to find out for certain lol. And as a friendly reminder, when snakes start shedding, they tend to strike at anything they perceive as a threat. As we are getting out and about more, keep a watchful eye on the ground as well.

Matt has his gopher traps, I have a different sorta trap. And mine doesn't have to be cleaned :D

If you go to your local feed store they might have sulfur in 50lb bags cheap. spead it around your yard and around the house. Its an old farmers thing for keeping snake away. They dont like the smell or something. And its good for the yards. It does work. And if you have land, guinnie fowl (african chick) work great to. Ugly but work.

Yeppers - neighbor got a large copperhead in his yard 2 days ago. They are beginning to move and as dry and warm as it's been there may be many more around. Been diligently working on mowing as much as I can in the yard out to the wood's boundries to try to cut down on them IN the yards!

Matt has used a "hollered" out snake to carry water in before. :)


My wifes friend had a 4.5 ft Copperhead 10 ft out her door last week. She actually stepped over it taking the trash out (probably on her phone not paying attention). She crapped herself ran in and got her husband and luckily it was still there. He blew it to smithereens

I've got an oak tree about 40" across blocking the fire road to the lake I fish. Head high brush on both sides of the trail. :eek: I'm going to get it cleared this week. It'll be hot, but I'll probably wear the snake chaps while weilding the 036Pro, chains, and ropes. Can't let those fish go uncaught this year, right?:D

I just spent the weekend camping at a local historical plantation. We had our yearly patriots day to celebrate the Rev War Colonel Richardson who built the house. I spent a good portion of that time removing snakes from buildings and the grounds themselves.

After clearing the fire trail, I could use a good laugh, too. Most of you would laugh at me if you saw me working this morning.

Running a 62cc saw and dragging 50' of 3/8" chain to hook up and drag big chunks of oak trunk ain't for chumps like me, anymore. It used to be easy, but since I've aged and not had the reason and/or opportunity to do so for a few years, it kicked my butt. But I got the job done!:D

Sorry I didn't get any "before" pics. The crappy phone pics were an afterthought as I leaned up against the truck to catch my breath after I got done.

I can get the truck through here, and it doesn't look too obvious:



Found this poor guy under the deadfall. Hope he went out naturally.

It got rocked off the back of the truck when I jerked one of the bigger pieces of the trunk up the trail while locked in 4Low.

Grand, there's a mess of channel cats in the lake below that mess. For the record, sometimes I practice "Catch and release, in hot grease".:p
