Justified- I personally would be perfectly fine living in some small town 1.5 hrs away from a decent sized city. My fiance on the other hand is a city girl who does not imagine her life out of NYC. Even NJ for her is middle of nowhere. On the other hand she makes up for that headache by saying things like "how come we don't have that gun" when a neighbor shoots some cool new toy at the range or "3 months of food is not enough, I want at least a year". Picking your battles is the key. I can't get us out of the city with out saw major drama but I have her full support when it comes to all other aspects of prepping. Now if I could only get out of residency and start making some money...

It sounds like you've sure got her support on prepping. That's a really good thing. Plenty of medical jobs in the middle of the country. They don't pay what you'd find on the east coast but you can also get a cup of good coffee for a $1.00 or less in Oklahoma.Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

I like the idea of the house with an extra sturdy hidden basement. We eventually want to buy a parcel of land about 4 hours out of Orange County. Same here on the basement paranoid. We can hide the entrance and also create a faux wall in the basement to hide supplies.Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. No matter where you are at- mountains, high desert, etc. have a SOLID PLAN in place to keep your shelter dry and to get out water OUT of there once water does infiltrate in.
It happens guys. Those that plan to fail for that, or planning to fail. I've been consulting at people's place who had floods in their shelters and helped out. Nothing like playing "bob for MRE packages" in three foot of 50 degree water while your 15 feet underground. It's an experience not soon forgotten.www.homesteadingandsurvival.com

That's some great advice lowdown. My brother was shooting my airgun in the basement and accidentally shot through a water barrel. About 2/3 of the 55 gallons leaked out before it was noticed. Mind you it was only 40 gallons spilled but it still was a big PIA to clean up. Obviously since then my brother has no access to the airgun
