  • My wife is on board! It's because of these stupid TV shows!

I have been a wannabe prepper for years and years but my wife has always kind of smirked and grinned at my paranoia. Since these TV shows have started, she has apparently come fullly on board.

We have always had the means for us to protect ourselves and go to the range regularly. (she is a southern girl after all). But since I got her to watch one of these shows,(doomsday Preppers I think), she has come on board to the LTS of food and water also. She even brought up the subject of a second storage site.

So, for everyone who hates these shows, don't. They have enabled me to become a full fleged prepper and now my family will be safe. My wife's only condition is to not bankrupt the family.

I suggest that society is very TV conditioned. If it's on TV it's ok. So instead of hating these shows, invite someone you know who is borderline over to watch it, and discuss the probabilities of what might happen with them. That's all it took with my wife.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Thats awesome to be on the same note.
I'm trying to work with some new folks but me and Nat Geo dont agree on alot and some folks are being hard headed about the "well it was on tv and they said" over what I have as experience. It also chaps me that i've known them for 11 yrs, never steered them wrong, they will call me at home from Academy, gun show and wallie world to ask for advice but then will listen to someone they never met because it was on tv.
Again thats awesome that you now have a partner the way it should be!

I almost prefer the Flu Pandemic show that was on the history channel for helping people get on board with prepping...it is a little easier for people to swallow than the DP show...imo

That is awesome news!! congrats....be sure to have her watch the PAW Production & Survival Report vids on youtube. And the S & P podcasts :)

My wife was so excited about the old missle silo, I thought she was going to jump off the couch. I think she is coming on board, at least until I tell how much items cost.

I think I will have to start making the items on my own. At least then I can tell her how much I saved.

As I mentioned elsewhere, these goofy shows have moved my wife from tolerating some prepping to taking some initiatives herself and demanding to know what are plan is for water and so forth.

The key is to laugh at the pole shift nuts but point out realistic situations where preps would be really nice to have. Also, I remind her that the particpants are forced to pick "one" reason they are prepping, and that the producers probably prefer the zany ones, not so much to mock (in my opinion) as to add varieity and allow them to use some stock animations and footage.

One thing that is funny, even to my still not fully converted wife is when the "experts" assess the likelyhood of the SHTF scenario occuring. About half of the scenarios are some kind of worldwide economic collapse. The "experts" weakly dismiss these based upon the statments of central bankers and IMF, etc. that makes her laugh, and she knows hardly anything about economics and monetary policy.
