I know some of you dont have one and dont care to have one because of its unecessaryness. But, this phone is awesome.

And because I have a wind up USB charger, I will always have power to it.

I have found some really cool apps on here that you can use in your everyday life.

Handy Level is a bubble level
    Elevation is an altimeter
    Flashlight..pretty bright too
    WikiHow Survival
First Aid (actually breaks situations down)
Police Scanner....listen in from all over the country
    Survival Guide is FM 21-76
Bug Spray...this one I want to try out. It is supposed to emit a high frequency noise that repels bugs.
Also I have a compass on here

Do any of you have this phone and what apps do you use that can be applied to what we do?

3D Sun is pretty cool...it tells you about solar flare activity and gives you updates.
Carpenters Helper Lite....nice calculator to use for carpentry...really works too
iStrelok is a ballistics calculator. Read that is works well. I am going to try this out when I got sight in my .308
Leafsnap...you can take pics of leaves on a white background and it will tell you everything about that tree
I just got a flashlight that blinks morse code. All you do is type in the text and it puts it in morse, also has SOS and flashlight

Google Translate is cool . You type in a phrase or speak it in and it plays or shows it back in a ton of different languages.. I cant wait to try this out on my Korean MIL and My Hispanic Stepfather!

Medjet is another 1st Aid app..

By the way, all of theses are FREE!

iTriage is an excellent medical app. The app has a disease, symtoms, medications and procedure lookups which are accurate and very very helpful. I've used the medication section of the app numerous times. Probably one of the best apps I've got.

I like the flashlight but it sure does burn up the battery!

I can't stand Apple....don't want no apple on my stuff....I am a PC and I am uncool .

I would have a smart phone but the manufactures got us by the cahones. It all dates back to the crackberries, they made you get a data plan and they have just kept on that tradition even though most smart phones automatically look for a WiFi connection and will use it before the 3G/4G data network. So most likely you are paying for something that you aren't hardly using if you around a lot of WiFi. I found out the history after emailing my cell provider CS team about the auto connect to WiFi first if available before using the data connection. I don't want to pay for something that I my phone will hardly use but I want the Apps and stuff and still make calls/text. The CS agent did say that maybe they need to be the first to market with this so keep your fingers crossed you might be seeing Smart Phones that let you choose if you want to buy a Data Plan.

Those Apps sound pretty sweet!! Thanks for sharing!

Yeah I piggyback off of wifi and you have to pay for that and the data. Just found last night that I can import all of my survival PDFs through iTunes books. Now I have so much info on this phone and don't even need service. I saw thy have a radiation detector app all you do is buy the attachment to plug in. These phones are unreal. And I am a PC guy and thought I would never get one of these. One of the best tools I have ever had

You have to pay to use the wifi and the data? Are these 2 separate additional items on your bill? Can you clarify?

            Say it ain't so.... LOL

Don't get me wrong Apple certainly has done a lot and they have challenged the status quo which is good, I just can't figure out where anything is at and their symbols aren't that clear to me.

I've got Strelok and a ballistics program from Knight's Armament, but it was either $29 or $39, but well worth it if you shoot long range.
              Google earth and maps
              Get altitude
              Mildot calculator
              Sun/moon rise and set times
              earth compass

Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

elittle, from what my wife said (we have verizon) you can pay for the 2G service and the WiFi extra, or you can pay for the 4G and get the wifi for free. But, she tells me this as she is mad at me for not doing some honeydo stuff.

But, the only thing about these phones is we pay a higher insurance. It is worth it. Because if it gets broken, there is no way I am dropping half of my rent on a new one.

And, it functions just like a laptop, but smaller. The only reason we didn't get the iPad is because no phone and it was a good chunk of money. With our plan upgrade and a coupon we got these phones at a fraction of the retail price. I can use this phone anywhere anytime now that I got all of my pdf's on it. And with the wind up charger.

I also have a Thunderbolt HTC for my work phone and I cant really get into the Android Application.

And, when I got to S&P from my phone, it is just like I was sitting at my laptop.

elittle - I LOVE Apple products. Why, because the work year after year. I owned my first Apple computer in 1985 (MacIntosh, that still in the attic). Switched to PCs and have owned several. Went back to Apple in 2004 and don't intend to leave again. The products are well made, the operating system never fails, (Gates actually stole it from Jobs), and the software is awesome. Had to defend my favorite phone and computer manufacturer. Most people who use Apple feel strongly about it.

I pay for a data system. But have WIFI in my home. Seems just riding around my iPhone picks you other networks and is always asking me if I want to connect. If you want to cancel your data system, are you saying you can simply use WIFI. Does it work without paying for data access?

I use the apps regularly, but am not one to seek them out. Depend on you guys to let me know what's good.

Don't get me wrong Apple has done a great job of creating a Tribe. I just hate being locked in the way Apple does. They think they know exactly what I will ever need, they don't. I want to add to my machine as time goes on and not pay out the nose for new hardware. As much as you love them I can't stand them, they are proprietary and that just irks me to the Nth degree. Kind of like Cisco and how they ignore IEEE definitions...sorry nerded out there for a second. Apple is based off of UNIX OS and I work with UNIX every day and it has problems too. There isn't a perfect OS out there...Apple just handles customer service better ;)

I can upgrade my PC cheaper than you can upgrade your Apple...built mine back in '06 and its still running strong (I am even running Win 7 Pro with an old dual core from '06)...only added 1 GB of RAM and a new Video Card because the Game I bought required higher Performance Graphics. Apple is still playing catchup on the PC Game Market, I realize you can put MS on Apple but you can't add hardware to it if your Game requires a better Video Card. The gaming market is pushing the CPU/GPU market and that was primarily all done on the PC not the Apple.
                      ***End Apple Rant***

With regards to Smart Phones you CANNOT get rid of your data plan right now and still expect to use your smart phone as a Phone with your carrier. Until the hardware manufacturers get rid of this policy you will always have to have a data plan to use your smart phone irregardless of the fact that a smart phone will use a WiFi first. Most smart phone users are paying for a service they are hardly using and they don't know it.

It all dates back to the Blackberries, the Hardware Manufacturers made you get a data plan and they have just kept on that tradition even though most smart phones automatically use a WiFi connection before the 3G/4G data network. Finally caught up to the century technology, not by choice by force LOL

                        freeebies as follows:
                        flashlight
                        Red Cross first aid
                        SAS survival manual (lite)
                        local weather station
                        Winchester ballistics charts

the map feature was my saving grace during the level 5 tornado in finding my SILs place and marking my truck location before going into the zone because until later the streets even in some places didn't exist because of debris and all features were unrecognizable
