  • Started fasting this morning

Started thinking about it after a post by patriot prepper and decided to give it a try. I'm up to about 12 hrs at the moment and actually looking forward to getting in the bed to get my mind off of it. I will do 24 hrs but I may go more if I think I can stand it. I hope to learn how my body reacts to absolutely no food while still going about my mostly normal routine. I would also like to gain a greater appreciation for the actual taste of food without added sugars, salts, spices, etc. I have read about people after 3 days of fasting commenting on how sweet lettuce tasted.

I'll let everyone know how it goes. This is my first time to ever fast.

I have done a day and a half before, that's about the most I've done fasting.

Real fruit juices, i.e, NOT from concentrate no "juicy juice" type crap, are helpful during it also. They seem to have a flushing type effect on the body.

Drink lots of pure distilled water also. Good luck.

Please only drink lots of pure distilled water while fasting if you are also drinking juices.

26 hours in and I actually feel pretty good. Not doing the distilled water or the juice, just bottled water without the chlorine. Started thinking about it and Jesus did not fast using distilled water. I have been checking my blood pressure every few hours and it is dropping a few points evry 8 hours or so, which I need. High blood pressure runs in my family.

True, but the world was just a "little bit" different 2,000 years ago... :)

A few years ago, I had gained a little more weight than I wanted and I hate dieting so I decided to fast until I lost fifteen pounds.

I went to the grocery and stocked up on fruit juces and V8, thinking that I would just eat no solid food.

That is exactly what I did and on the second day the weight started to come off pretty quick.

At the seventy two hour mark, I was mowing the lawn and it was hot. My wife was weed eating and she came and asked me if I would do the weed eating in the road side ditch in front of the house.

I started this task and she went inside to cool off. I guess she felt sorry for me because she came back out and told me to take a break and handed me a quart of ice cold apple juice.

I sat down under a tree and downed the whole thing. After a few miniuts rest I got up and resumed my task.

A car full of my friends and neighbors came down the road and seeing me , they honked at me and I threw one hand in the air and waved.

I think it was the wave that did it but I got this sick feeling and somthing hot was running down my legs !

I put on my best brave face and kept waving until they were past my house. I then reached down and gathered up the back of the legs on my bib overalls and duck walked to the house.

The moral to this story is , when you fast, expect the unexpected ! !

Fasting is for little/no activity. A time for prayer, reflection, cleansing and meditation not work. Even if your not religious or spiritual you wouldnt try and run your car by putting 1/8 inch of fuel in the tank at a time and try and maintain highway speeds. The body requires fuel to run properly.

I went 34 hours with water only, then kicked the door off the hinges to the kitchen. I will admit that food really tasted good for about 24 hrs or so afterwards. I will try again next month, going for 48hrs. My blood pressure dropped almost 30 points. I had a headache when I finally decided to wimp out (eat). I have read that it is not uncommon to have nausea, headaches, diahrea, etc. when fasting. In hindsight, I should have taken a nap instead of eating but it didn't occur to me at the time.

Often times also, it can be caffeine and/or sugar withdrawal that causes the headaches.

I fast every day, at least twice.

I fast between breakfast and lunch, and between lunch and dinner.

I'll admit that I get very hungry when I fast.

So why the distilled water ? It has special properties ? What is good about not eating for a whole day ? I would think that fasting would be for a longer time period like a week or so . Im asking from rl experiences not something I can google and see , but from people who have actually done it and what benefit they recieved . Thanks

I have fasted on numerous occasions for 1 day, 3 days, and twice for 7 days, always with just water. Each time I continued with my daily activities. The hunger tends to fade after 3 days. The one slight difficulty I had was a bit of dizziness a few times when I would get up, doubtless from low blood sugar, slowing the response time of a constricting muscle in the abdomen which prevents blood going to your legs when you get up. I dealt with that by taking deep breaths before rising and solved that difficulty. There is a freedom you feel when you know that missing a meal or twenty won't kill you. I don't ever worry about missing meals, frequently get involved with something and pass them by.

I don't eat breakfast usually, I will eat a large Lunch and sometimes a large Supper. and then there is the Scotch. Maybe I should try fasting. I could use losing 15 LBS.

Its actually called Orthostatic Hypotension. Your body isn't given enough time [in its now weakened state-YES WEAKENED] to compensate for the shift in blood pressure to the brain. Layman turns: the body adjusts your blood pressure based (one reason) on your body position: you know to prevent you from having an aneurism, but when you sit up or stand up too fast [in a weakened state] your body can not readjust the blood pressure fast enough, causing a DROP in blood volume (not flow-volume) to the brain. This = "WOW I got dizzy there for a second"

Yes our bodies can survive a LOONG time (comparitively speaking) without food, the question is, is it good for you to do it? I'm betting my money on the medical field that says extended fasting (greater than 3 days) is medically ill-advised. Just saying...
