  • Glasses - Zenni sale

I know we were discussion vision the other day, and I thought about adding this to that thread, but it is a fantastic deal so I didn't want anyone to miss it.

ZenniOptical is having a big sale, buy two pairs of glasses and get a third pair free. My rx is simple so three pair of glasses with some extras ended up costing less than $50. DH isn't as simple. He wears the photochromatic + no line bifocals. 3 pair for him were $168. If we bought them from a local store a single pair was going to run between $550 and $600+.

If two is one and one is none, when it comes to glasses I will be good to go with three new pair, plus my old ones!

Thanks MG, you could not have had better timing. Dh came home today and he had stepped on his reading glasses at work. They had slipped off his desk, he got up and crunch--he looked down to see his glasses underfoot. :( Anyway, he has an appointment to get his prescription updated and once we have that I will order the glasses for him. Hopefully the sale will still be one.

I think it goes until the 14th. So hopefully you will be able to take advantage of it. Be sure you ask for your script with the PD (pupilary distance) included - very important.

I just wanted add, DH has been wearing his current pair for over two years, and they are still in good shape. A bit scratched and in need of a new script, but after that long, that is pretty normal - especially when you consider how he takes care of them! LOL

I just destroyed my glasses (I sat on them yesterday). I glued them up but they fell apart again early today. Zenni Optical seems to be a good place to buy my new glasses. Just one more question, how did you get your prescription?

Your eye doctor or whoever made your last glasses SHOULD give you your prescription. Write it down and keep it.

FWIW, IMO, unless your 65 or older or have reoccuring real deal eye problems, it's foolish to get a new (different) eyeglass prescription every year. If your eyes are TRULY failing, that's one thing. But I did this once or twice and despite the fact that my eyes were fine, I was seeing well, etc. I was given a higher prescription. Your eyes are a muscle.

I've had the same prescription since 1998 and refuse to get a new one unless I start having some sort of vision trouble. If I did the "according to the AMA" (or whoever) plan of going to the eye doctor yearly and getting new glasses, I'd have a lot less money, probably have coke bottle lenses by the time I was 40 and weak eyes. No thanks.

They are going to tell you "oh no, you HAVE to drink the koolaide." Tell them if they want to sell you glasses use the last script if it's still working fine. They make more on the glasses than the exam probably most of the time/place. I have yet to find one to refuse.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Your 'script belongs to you. The eye doctor's office is required by law to provide it to you. The Zenni site has some good information on that. - edited to add.... well, they used to, it may still be there.... but I can't seem to find it.

I just got mine in yesterday - and posted an update, but I couldn't be happier with the glasses and customer service we have had from Zenni.
