  • A really good week for prepping

DH is finally on-board. Before, I could never really tell if he was just humoring me or if he believed what I was sharing with him at all! Something changed. I don't know what, but I am thankful. It feels really good to be able to share, not just the load, but the planning.

We took a gardening class, made a Sam's run, hit Harbor freight, added more preps from WalMart, packed some buckets, bought several boxes of ammo, made plans for future prep purchases, worked on gardening plans, and plans for a water system.

We also worked on goat fencing. And we need to work on it some more! After we got our goats, I read an old saying about goats and fences. "If it won't hold water, it won't hold a goat!" I am beginning to learn how true that is with our two dairy goats. If those girls weren't giving milk, they would be looking for a new home!

That's great news.... It was kinda the opposite with me, I had to convince my wife. The pantry of canned food idea she was all for, cause her "grandmom had one!" But I got plenty of weird looks when I started stuffing mylar bags full of rice and beans into 5 gal. buckets!

Congrats! Having your family on board with your preps is one of the best preps you can make. It also makes it more fun too.

Congratulations, it will be much easier with him on board. It would be interesting to find out just what put him 'over the top' and convinced him of the need and urgency. Whatever it was, you're a lucky gal.

I asked him what changed. He said he had been watching world events and started thinking. He says he thinks I am very intelligent and if I was worried, then there was probably just cause for worry, plus lots of different things added confirmation.

He called today, wanting to know about medical preps. He brought home a bunch of alcohol (rubbing) and hydrogen peroxide. He is obviously spending quite a bit of time thinking about it.

              Rock on!

My wife has realized that a portion of our Uncle Sam is going towards preps. I think she is finally leaning towards doing this more than we do. For the storing of food I tell her.."What if I lose my job again? We will be good in the food department and that is one less bill that we will have to worry about" Seems like it is sinking in.

With the rifles I plan on purchasing, I tell her " I need something to go hunting and even though you dont like deer meat, I can probably snag a turkey or two, a duck or five and maybe a hog and just think how much meat I can put in the freezer. You are creative with recipes, hell, Pinterest.com probably has a great Deer Casserole!" She started looking at recipes. She knows that venison is very good for you and if I can get her past the whole killin Bambi and Thumper thing, she will be good.

With the 1st Aid I am looking to acquire, well, she knows its always good to have a good stock of Alcohol, Peroxide, Bandages and the such.

With finally making our own Washing Detergent and soon to be dishwashing detergent, she is looking into making her own cleaners. Looks like more goodies to the stock.

We are about 80% on finalizing the purchase of the home we are renting...she knows, the day after the papers are signed, a dozen or so fruit trees and blueberry bushes are going in the dirt. She knows that is more of an investment than 401K.....food giving plants that if taken care of, will provide for some time.

Our goal in life is to become more self sufficient and we inch closer and closer every day. One day she is going to wake up and say "Babe, I am going to get my CCW, a new .45, 2 LWRC AR's, 300lbs of rice and a pink grain grinder: :)

I'd be really intested in how you make dishwashing detergent. For the dishwasher or for washing by hand?

We used to use the home made laundry soap, but it just didn't keep my whites white enough.

                  For the dishwallawasher

Here's a simple recipe for dishwasher soap:
                  • 1 cup of borax • 1 cup of baking soda •

MG, that is great your dh is now on board with your preps and that you are working together, it does make it more fun. My dh agrees that prepping is a good thing, but for the most part he does not help out. Although if I ask him to help me on a particular project he will. At this point he does not come home and/or call me and say "honey, we need to do or think about this ______."

Wiseowl, let me know how you like your dishwasher soap. If it works, I might give it a try too!

MG great, way to go. Just be sure to follow a plan. My DW went overboard and started spending too much. Need to prioritize....
