    Well?

There's been a ton of threads on the web about the d-day preppers.
Lots of us have seen the 1st one and now the second.
I see lots of people couch quarterbacking these folks, and also those who are in defense of them, their plans, skills etc.
We all know its TV and hard to tell what is "real" and what is not. Though for most it is plain as day what or who hasnt tried or is telling a lie.

Ive seen other forums where the people on the show are now having ..umm how should i say it.. the 15 mins of fame has worn off and it isnt what they made it or wanted from it ( aka the ridicule online from their peers).

So how many of you out there are the "megans" and " hippies" and northeast lib's, either by mentality or in skill/prep or plan wise.

This is NOT a call out of anyone here. But to get people to think..think about where they stand in their preps/plans and skills. To be REAL about it.
For example- we saw megan with her target brand FAK, those who know could see the large military m5 kit behind her..but we also saw her shoddy lack of good equipment for her "bug out" , her lack of knowing how to load a ruck and her un-realistic goals of humping( no pun intended) it out of Houston.

Lets not dwell on the show and how bad it made the majority of "survivalist" look, hopefully those who are now regretting doing the show see how they screwed up, but let us look at it, and learn from it.

You know i'll start it off...

    im perfect:p
in honesty my location sucks. Though i am light years beyond most in my same scenario, it is not ideal for long term, nor is it good for along term family setting imho. ( i cant go into to much on my AO).
so location is my major issue right now.

sorry its kinda short and i may not have come across well ( i cant sit in front of the cpu long due to an injury) maybe i'll do a mp3 of what i think LOL
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

Havent got to see it all, just clips but....
I dont have a "location" thats mine so that stinks. I'm slowly working on things as I can, i dont feel prepared in any area totally. I feel mentally alot better off then these folks i see on here though in realistic approaches. My skills (ninja included LOL) are above them. I think being well rounded is a key that i am doing. All my stuff isnt for a polar shift zero gravity earthquake or abominal snowman zombie attack etc. it's more diverse and real. My families physical condition needs alot of work. My job has the potential to trap me where i dont want to be. I have located some level headed good quality people to work/train with which some of these GEOs are really lacking in.

      I give myself about a 5 out of 10.

      Reasons:
      location isn't a retreat
skills - most came from service and grandfather but are rusty in some areas and will be working on them
food - getting better, about 2.5 months worth of some grains and legumes, needs a lot more work
      Fuel - none stored
      power - none
water - i have 17 gal onsite and strip mine lakes with in walking distance 20 min one way. no option for well at current location.

I have access to a family farm that has fuel but no off grid power.

We are supposed to be preparing? I thought I was coming to your house?!?!?!?

        I would say about a 4 out of 10.

Location good with well water. But no extra power (in progress) in case the grid goes down. House is sturdy (built in 47) and has been kept up over the years. No damages to speak of.

Food is still not up to speed. Water is a work in progress. I have heat in the form of gas firelogs, but the fireplace was wood at one time and the gas logs can be removed and the line capped.

Security is fairly quiet small town and I have plenty of things that go bang. However, I'm only twenty minutes outside a major metropolitan area. No defense in depth so to speak and no real good place to bug out to for the moment.

But I do have two things...the knowledge of what I know and what I am not prepared for. And this means I can effectively work through the problems and better prepare.

Like everything, it's a work in progress.

          I am a 4.5 out of 10.

Location is good. A town of about 600 15 miles south of a 60,000 and 8 miles north of a 5000. Those 2 are predominantly low low low class and a good percentage of hooligans. 55 miles from 4.5 million in the crap hole that is Atlanta. Small town of country/ self sufficient folks. Farmers and hunters.
Only 12 homes on my street, all except for 5 are on well water and no city hookups. We have a well, and if we buy this house (fingers crossed) I will have it tested.
From 9:00 all the way to 4:00 I have wide open view for 200+ yards. 100's of acres behind me and 3 lakes and a swamp (100 yards behind my house)
Ole stick and siding house, very prone to go up in a blaze or be swiss cheesified in a firefight.

Food. Better off than 90% of this country. Water, we got it. That is the most important factor into us buggin in and letting some folks come here if something ever happens.

Weapons....ooh wee Uncle Sam hits the account next Friday!!!! I will have something for every direction of my home.

Skills...outdoor skills and woods skills are a B.
Fighting and Self Defense, I say a C+. Not as young and quick but bigger and stronger....and mean, plumb mad dog mean.

I would assume in a "stained underwear" situation, my street/area would be a good place to be because of all of the resources we have here. It would be just a matter of everyone coming together.
I definitely know we would be battlin vagrants from the 2 towns in my vicinity because they are of that ilk already.

In a bug out situation we have Oconee Nat'l Forest (but who else does) and if we make it to the hills, I have 5-6 little nooks in the Chatahoochie Nat'l Forest to hide out in....some caves in there too. But again, who else knows about them. I think with the people I know and talk about this stuff with, we would have a decent crew of about 14 here at the house and could hold our own. But, the ole warrior in my soul says, I would die defending it.

I'm not overly stocked up . Location wise, I know where I'm going , and I know it like the back if my hand . There are a ton of things I could work on , but I can honestly say I have no doubt in myself. I have a sound body , mind, and spirit. So home stocked (4) gear for bugging out(7) ability and willingness to provide for my family ( 7) know how as far as what I can eat drink and grow (8). I'm a country boy raised up on the river working in the fields. As Hank said " ain't to many things this ol boy can't do." it might sound cocky to some but I believe in me.

I have not seen the show. But for us, we are approx. 7 mi. out of town of 55k, outside much larger towns not too far away. We have a generator that runs the entire house, however, it is connected to natural gas and as soon as that runs out we will be using backup systems of alternative cooking sources, lighting sources, etc. Which we have. We have approximately 6 mos. to 1 year of food and growing. I have all of the water containers, just not all of them filled. We have defensive guns and ammo, and items for hunting. We also have defensive weapons training, however, we have never been in the military or been in a situation where we had to actually use our defensive training so I think that takes us down a few notches in my opinion. I am also working on more sustainable living such as gardening. I am also trying to plant not just garden items, but things in the ornamental beds that are food sources as well, i.e, plants that are not obvious food sources.

Overall, I would say we are about a 3.5 to 4 out of 10. There is a lot more we could be doing in building our survival skills which we have not made the time for as we are have been focused on day to day living. My husband works hard to make a living, plus we have two kids in school. One of those kids is special needs and requires a lot of care/time so packing up on the weekend to go camping really is not an option for us--we truly are homebound for the most part.

I'd say about a 4, good location with a backup tempary bug out location close by, Good skills. Good short term food storage, need more long term stuff. Need to be in better physical condition (in progress). Wife only on board for short term local disaster, She not sure about the feasability of long term survival in a WROL situation. thanks for the reminder, it's good to re-eval goals/progress.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Late reply...just found this thread poking through. I'm about a 2.5 to 3. My location absolutely bites the big one. I'm in a 'burb just outside of Atlanta in yuppieville. My short-term supplies are pretty good but only have one month basic LTS (will be two this weekend if I have the time). As far as water, about 240 gal of rain barrels around my house and about 15 minute walk to a major river. I have some firepower but need more ammo. My neighbors are sheeple yuppies so as far as help....none.
Bugout...my bugout plan is in it's infancy. Both my wife and I ride Harleys so we're REAL familiar with the north Georgia back roads and possible locations (we don't ride with the yuppie groups, just the two of us). Haven't really mapped and picked out any specific locations. That'll happen this summer. I do have a 'toy hauler' that'll hold up to about 5,000 pounds of goods and has a 5500 watt genset but the issue(s) with that are 1) getting to it (stored offsite) and 2) getting out of town with it.
My survival skills are rusty and hunting skills even more rusty.

In other words, I have a LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGG way to go in all areas but am making progress, albeit slow. The longest journey starts with the first step and continues by putting one foot in front of the other...repeat until you reach your destination.

We have a BOL that is very secluded with a well and wet weather creek. There is enough fuel stored at my home for myself and the other family intending to BO with us. About 15 months worth of food and the ability to grow it. Wild game at BOL to help stretch the food supply. We have also stored medical equipment, antibiotis and have a nurse in the group. We need to get a windmill for the well in the case of the power grid going down. Security is squared away and continuing to grow. We have some things put away for barter and charity as well. We need to improve our living structure and get the windmill in place. Due to this I give us a 5 out of 10. Water being a major necessity.

location - Ozark Mtns in a small farming community. approximately 60 to 70 miles from two medium sized cities. 15 miles from two small towns. Moving from a mobile home into a stick built home we are currently remodeling. Could be better, but it could be a heck of a lot worse. We have good neighbors. Several of our neighbors are DH's family and while we don't normally socialize, I know we would pull together in an emergency.
skills - I have first aid training and am taking another class this fall. Former LEO - so I do have some fighting and self defense skills. DH is a LEO. We have pretty decent knowledge of who the local thugs are... DH is a firearms instructor and we are both pretty skilled with firearms.
weapons and ammo - Happy with our weapons, could use some more ammo, but in pretty decent shape.
food - If I include all the food we have stored "on the hoof" we are in pretty good shape for probably four months, possibly more. Trying to be conservative and realistic. Will be getting a couple hundred pounds more of rice probably next week.
Fuel - very little stored. Well, that isn't exactly true. We heat and cook with propane and try to keep the tank full.
power - Have a good generator, six to eight ricks of seasoned wood. No solar.
water - capability to store 550 gallons of water. Also have two ponds within 1/4 of a mile. Can get to one without having to cross the county road. 3 miles from a very cold year round stream. Neighbor (DH's Uncle) has 3000 gallon water tank and tractor.
physical condition - I need to lose weight and DH could stand to drop a few pounds. I had back surgery some years ago, so I'm only 80-90%.

ETA: I would say we are at a 3, maybe a four. Of course, we are way ahead of where we were 14 months ago. It is definitely a work in progress.

would have to rate myself a 7 or 8
My reason for a higher rating is my location and my surronding. i was real lucky some years back to buy were i bought . I didnt know i was going to be a prepper but lucky i bought in a farming area 45 mins. from any small town hour 1/2 from med size 21/2 from atlanta thank god.
the farms around me are over 1000 acres cattle and chicken farms some farming done.the people are the key to all of this they are all liked minded people because we live away from others we have meet and talked about what if this and what if that. also all roads that lead to our area have bridges which can be blocked making the area a island which is good and bad.
