Brrrrr, so many things wrong with both this guy, this situation, and everything!
    You know what,
I was going to rant about .gov, getting in shape, Rule #1, and other things, but instead, I'll be positive, and post this video from another feller in Tennessee:

What does this have to do with "Doomsday Preppers"?
Well, when the zombie watermelons attack, This guy is prepared!

I seem to remember this guy that has a lot of time in this movement saying a long while back that the media will ALWAYS make people like us look like idiots, that they do NOT have our best interests in mind, etc.

Still can't find the full episodes on line Matt, sorry. Nat Geo site has you go to three different places but no full eps.

You didn't miss much brother :) Bad entertainment, that was about it.

I have actually watched a few episodes with my wife, and I think that its actually loosening her up with my prepping. Compared to me, those people are fairly extravagant with their preps and she is more on bord with my style.

You know, this is going to come off really crappy...... but I think the thing I like most about watching this show on the net with the family was being able to counteract a lot of the BS flak we have gotten from honestly both sides of our families (mine and in laws) regarding how we live.

We live a pretty damn NORMAL life comparatively. I realize this is half the "lure" of reality TV shows, which makes me feel really crappy even posting this.

We live "differently" no doubt there, but we don't eat weeds regularly, I'm "familiar" with containers but we don't live in them, and while we exercise 3X a week as a family (workout with kettlebells and run), we don't have a "dancing" haha pole in any room in our house.

It's like that old Jeff Foxworthy joke "we are damn near royalty!" that he said when comparing his family to some in laws that were always in jail, etc.

We have all the conveniences of a modern suburban house- yet we produce our own power from real solar panels that have proven the test of time. We raise most all of our own veggies, fruits and meat but we don't spend "7 hours a day putting up food" (I call BS on that anyways). Our house looks like any normal house- the only difference is the walls are poured solid, there is no carpet in it and their are more south facing windows. The only thing that at first glance makes our place look different looks a lot like a type of older structure that's very common in our area. If you were from a different place you might not recognize what it looks like, but locals are often fooled by it. Besides, someone has to be coming specifically to our place to get near it enough to view any of these things. In 13 years we have only had one "turnaround" with a wrong address.

We don't drive buses, nor big trucks with huge "Molon Labe" or "Don't tread on me" stickers on them. We drive common vehicles that blend in and are also great on gas.

We live for today as well as the future. Our preps serve us NOW as well as they will serve us in the future.

When times are hard, and we have had our share, we have lived completely off our food storage for upwards of a year at a go. When we were struggling to get out of debt, we learned basic blacksmithing so we could repair garden tools instead of buying new ones- and to have something "here" to do.

In the summer, about the time school is done for the summer, we start putting up food. Usually plums are first around mid to late May. 100-200 quarts of beans normally come next and all have to be done within about a week or so. Succession planting? Sometimes planting half around the 1st of April and half the 10th works, often times the heat is killing the 2nd planting. Apples start coming in in earnest and that's the bulk of the fruit canning and drying. Potatoes are normally ready to be dug around this time but they at least have a little leeway in when, which is nice. Sweet corn comes next.

We eat a lot of the same things. We eat a lot of stuff that begins and ends it's life here on the homestead.

All of our heat comes from the woodlot here as well as close by friends that are always looking to cut some trees together and split up the wood. We keep at least 3 cords always on hand. For us, that's upwards of 3 winters. We purchased a hydraulic splitter a couple years ago as a time saver.

I work one business that is more or less a "normal" business and then I have another business that isn't what most would call normal LOL. So when we are talking with regular folks, we just mention the "normal" business and leave out mentioning the prep business. A couple of businesses gives us flexibility and multiple streams of income. Being debt free now for 3 years has helped like mad. Praise the Lord we were able to do that.

We have plenty of things we don't talk about on the net for several reasons, OPSEC obviously being the biggest one but also it's easy for someone to not understand that you've been at it for 2 1/2 decades and think your filfthy rich because of what you've done in the prep realm. Not rich, just CONSISTENT with what I've been doing since literally a teenager. Built a plan in my mind and over 26 years I worked the plan, brick by brick, bucket by bucket.

That being said, most everything I've done has dual uses. The fallback use is of course if something major actually does happen, the main use however is for LIFE.

I've turned them down a couple times, but if I was on this show and was asked "what are you preparing for?" My answer would be

                              LIFE
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"
