I agree. I often find myself shaking my head in disbelief over something in the news. "A little at time" I always say to myself. We are getting acclimated to everything a little at a time.

        The root cause is: POWER

Politicians want it, and since MORE people want a hand out instead of a job. A particular political party caters to that masses with promises of we can and hope, for the sole purpose of being elected. To keep in power the same political party continues to stifle growth and development of the middle and lower case, to KEEP THEM broken down, to blame the rich for achieving what we all can (but we dont tell them that).

After so many decades of "pleasing" the atheists (read banning God from our lives), allowing homos to marry (hello this is a RELIGIOUS EVENT, since NO religion openly accepts homos, why is this even an issue) to make them feel equal (they can not as a couple reproduce, thus they are NOT equal), then there is the minority wars who think they are entitled to a free ride for something their ancestors endured, well they ARE NOT entitled (may I remind you some countries slaughtered their slaves instead of giving them their freedoms + the first LEGAL slave owner in America WAS A BLACK MAN!!) OK, I dont want to drag this on, but again the root to our demise is the same with ALL societies, POWER or more accurately what we do to achieve power.

Whether you choose to believe in God or Christ the Savior or not, the laws and tenets of Christianity, if followed, will allow the building and maintaining of a culture like we have seen in this country and all its wonderful accomplishments. When those beliefs and laws are ignored and allowed to dissolve, you get the perversions and rampant societal degeneration that you see when you look around you today. A culture of pure self love, no consequences for bad behavior, perverts in the mainstream of society being accepted and even celebrated.

A friend of mine said it very well recently- "When you have no moral compass, you cannot help but to wander into the wrong areas of the soul".
I like your response very much. Greed seems to be the "hellish" problem.

Exactly! The more they continue to "test the waters" the more we won't see it coming.

In Matthew, we are warned of a time when people's hearts have grown cold. Heart speaks of love, and lack of love of our fellowman is manifest in selfishness.
When we are obedient to Jesus, doing the things He says, we fulfill the Third great commandment He gave us. Most who have read the Bible don't pick up on the Third commandment, which Jesus gave in the Gospel of John: John:15:12: This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. John:15:13: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John:15:14: Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
The first two great commandments tell us where we should direct our love, towards God, and towards our neighbor. The third commandment tells us the degree of love we should have, love at the very cost of our lives, the ultimate sacrificial love.
Mankind apart from God is a cancer. When we are connected to God in love, we function in society to fill the purpose we were created for. When we live apart from God, we live selfishly, with no concern for the well-being of our fellow man. Just so, a cancer cell lives as a rebel, not fulfilling its original purpose, consuming resources and poisoning its environment, finally dying along with the body it rebelled against.
Salvation is not just saying "Lord, Lord," for we see Jesus rebuking that thinking, saying "Depart from me you evildoers, I never knew you."
His sheep hear His voice and obey.
All the sin and destruction we see around us result from this fundamental failure to love as He loved us.
              III We are everywhere.

It's the lack of fundamental values , that used to be taught at home. No self responsibility , lack of work ethic , and an all around don't care mentality . Religion aside, if all listened to the voice inside of you we wouldn't be like this, if you do anything in life and have the slightest bit of guilt, then it was wrong , plain and simple.
Carry as little as possible , to obtain as much as needed.

All good points. I think what was the beginning
of America's decline was the utopian quest.
When the citizens decide to look to a government
for help rather than each other we loose value and
worth in the eyes of the community. When the
government takes from my family I begrudge them
and recieve no blessing, when the government
distributes it they get no blessing because it is not there's
to give, and the ones who receive it don't get a blessing
because they think it owed to them.
When you see someone in need and you give of yourself
in love, God blesses you and it is a blessing for those that
receive that help to know someone cares enough to
                  sacrifice for them.
America was so great because the government was there
to Protect and defend what God had already given us...
FREE WILL... Individual Liberty as long as it did not
deny others of there's. How things change!

A number of good points, but I'm going to go with arrogance. This idea of a kind of manifest destiny -- how many societies throughout history have believed themselves to be singled out by God for greatness? And where are they now? How many times have you heard a politician say "America is the greatest country in the history of the world?" With an attitude like that, it's easy to see why many people don't seem to care about mounting national debt, devalued currency, etc. After all, nothing can hurt us: we're the greatest country in the history of the world!

You have to remember that our current 'problems' didn't just happen. The morally empty, self-loving, undisciplined, and lazy people of today are that way because THEIR parents raised them that way, either directly or by proxy by letting the TV and the schools raise their kids for them while they were out living 'free love' and revolting against the conservative society around them. The decay has been occurring for at least two generations and I despair at our chances to reverse the damage.

All societies go thru this hedonistic phase right before the 'barbarians' overrun them. Rome was sacked by grim-faced men who knew only war and violence as a way of life; the Romans had no chance against them because they had allowed their society to lose its respect for knowledge, self discipline and the ways of war and had degenerated into a lifestyle of luxury and decadence where the Rulers stayed in power through giving the people 'bread and circuses'- can you say American Idol, Life with the Kardashians, Fear Factor?

                      Welcome to Rome!

If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Gov't, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin
                      Sam Adams

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

I'm not going to shake my Bible at any of the rest of you, because whether you believe in God or not, history has shown this to be true, over and over , and over through the ages. Each one of your individual points will in some way or another come back to this single factor when broke down to it's basic arguments.

Thanks for responding to my question. While my ideas are slightly different than some expressed here, there is plenty of room for agreement.

So, the most common answer is that the problems we are experiencing now, or facing in the future, stem from either a disconnect from the teachings of God, or reflect a prevailing decline in moral values. Is it fair now to pose this question: Are all of us on this forum who hold this belief doing a better job than average of staying connecting to God, following His teachings, and living to a high standard of personal ethics and morality? Sorry to hear your sad Cindy. :(

Your idea of Christianity comes from the world, probably not from a real relationship with the Savior. Your lack of understanding of Scripture is very common in today's time, even amongst Christians. Your whole last post smacks of secular humanism and that "saddens me greatly." :(

Your confusing a lot of concepts here. Most importantly you probably see some of us saying that the "root cause" of our nation's problems being lack of morals as "bible thumping." Yet I have yet to see anyone here tell anyone else "you had an abortion so your an evil person." That has not happened. A classic liberal tactic is to put their enemies off balance by attacking first and making their enemies go on the defensive. Soon, people are used to just being on the defense and when they look up, all the ground around them is taken!

This idea that Christians are just supposed to take crap from anyone in the name of "tolerance" (a huge tenet of the secular humanism your pushing) is a major contributor to how we got to the messed up place we are in now.

Very interesting. You seem to feel that I am attacking you, since you mention "attacking first". Is it an attack to ask you your ideas?

Absolutely, I am a humanist, as was Jesus, in that I place my loyalty to God and humanity before the laws of man and government,

Secular humanist- the exact ideas your expressing have nothing to do with any of Jesus teachings.

So tell me this Cindy, in your words answering for yourself- who exactly is God?
