  • Root Cause of Our Problems?

    Our world has problems that are so serious that they seem to be causing most contributors to this forum to conclude that an apocalytic event is likely sometime in the forseeable future.

    What do you think are the ROOT causes of the main problems afflicting this planet, or life on this planet, or human kind? I'm not asking about superficial causes, gripes, or complaints (like political parties), or about the United States specifically, but the very ROOT, UNDERLYING, FOUNDATIONAL causes of the problems that this group seems to agree are looming over humanity.

    Any thoughts?

        Can you be more specific? Which teachings exactly are you referring to? I don't want to persume that I know what you mean.

          All of them. Society is trying to take prayer and anything to do with God out of our lives. Man has turned his back on God's teachings. The reason this country has grown so great is because of God's blessings. I think we have lost a lot of these blessings, one reason we see the economy collapsing, weather going crazy (we just had a F3 tornado this past Monday morning killing 3 people and it is only January), people going crazy (welfare society, mothers killing their children, murder-suicides, etc), and general persecution of Christians worldwide.

          I don't believe in global warming, or think that 2012 is "THE" year for civilization to end as we know it. Only God knows the future. I keep a positive outlook and trust in God that His plan is the best one for me, my family, and for the world. I don't know why I feel like I should be preparing for rainy days but feel led to it for some reason. Revelations tells us of hard times to come, but I do not like to talk about it simply because I do not understand all of it and because of the warning that is given in the last verse.

            Perhaps the root cause of modern man's problems is the worship of material objects. He no longer responds to the inate beauty of the world. Think about the images of young people during Christmas, Jesus' birthday, tearing down the doors to shopping centers and trampling people in order to get expensive tennis shoes. Think of morally vacant people who torture children or animals. When both God and nature are no longer important, what is left but despair?

            I like Wordsworth's poem about the spiritual emptiness of mankind:

            "THE WORLD IS TOO MUCH WITH US; LATE AND SOON"
            by William Wordsworth

            The world is too much with us; late and soon,
            Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
            Little we see in Nature that is ours;
            We have given our hearts away,
            a sordid boon!
            The Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
            The winds that will be howling at all hours,
            And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers;
            For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
            It moves us not
            .--Great God! I'd rather be
            A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn; 10
            So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
            Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
            Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
            Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn.
            1806.

              Like it or not we are no different from any other cultures in that we live, we thrive, we fail. It's a society eventuality that man turns what works into something that doesnt and then somone else will come along and make it better then it too will fail and so forth and so on. Every culture in history thought it couldnt be defeated, overthrown and would be there forever because they were just that good. Think about it Romans, Gingas Kahn, Nazis, Napolean, British Empire, Egyptians etc etc etc all great then epic fail, might be our turn, dunno
              Dunno if it's gonna be Apocolyptic or not but there are game changing events that happen and I've even been thru some as many here have already too.

                I think the problem has alot to do with people being lazy.

                People are too lazy to communicate with thier kids. It's much easier to let the T.V. teach them what they need to know. It's alot easier to relax and enjoy a beer when you get home and pretend and tell yourself that your family doesn't have any problems. "Sweep them under the rug" if you will. I know people that live in our small town that put on a happy face and show in public. Most of them have major problems they pretend aren't there. They're too lazy to fix them. Please don't give me the "They may not know how to handle thier problems" speech. ANYONE can do ANYTHING if they WANT to. It's the same way with what happened in the election in '08. I had people tell me to "not worry about it" or "he won't be any worse than any of the others we've had". Noone wanted to take the time and energy to look into the guy and see what was right in front of them. Now what? Alot of the same people are fired up now, but I bet they don't take the time and energy to go vote this year. Lazy.

                People that voted in our current Pres. What did the majority of them want? Thier "fair share". Laziness. People are at the point that they don't even want to work for the food they provide for thier families. No pride, no honor. People are lazy. I am trying to teach my children the right way to live thier lives. It's hard. I may be hurting them in the long run by teaching them right, but at least I am not too lazy to spend time with them or correct them when they need it. I'm not talking about corporal punishment either. I'm talking about the fact that my two year old says "please, thank you, yes ma'am, no ma'am, yes sir, no sir and blesses his meals. My wife and I have worked at it because we aren't lazy.

                Sorry, don't know if this is a reason things are the way they are or not, but MAN it felt good to vent!;)

                  History repeats. Progression progresses then regresses.

                  The world will never end. Until the sun burns out in 2 billion years I suppose. A lot of the people of our "ilk" seem to have their own hypothesis of what will happen.....and no one knows. Period. We "do our thang" because it is what makes us comfortable, safe and well....prepared. We have a contingency plan for the contingency plan. We are the 1...maybe the 2% of the WORLD that can live without the help of the gov., the stores and shops, the oil rigs, the stock market, the handouts, the TV, the net, and whatever luxuries the 20th+ century has given us.

                  Also, the big issue is the removal of God out of the daily life. That has been covered here so I wont echo that thought.....I agree 100% as well.

                  People not only are lazy but they are stubborn, selfish, and ridiculously stupid.

                  I honestly dont think we are going to see a TOTAL COLLAPSE or TEOTWAWKI anytime soon....these YouTube videos and Blogs are romanticized in our brains so much that we "marinate" on it waaaaay too much.

                  Live life, do what makes you happy and enjoy every day with your loved ones. If living in the hinterboonies with a well, animals and no driveway makes you happy, do it. If you live in the iHome with all of the fancy stuff, do it. Be yourself. Armchair commandos and armchair preachers need to move on.
                  Be honest, faithful and love................those are the 3 things this world is missing.

                        Homosexuality and child murder would be the two biggest ones that immediately come to mind.

                            Root causes? A lack of a belief system that emphasizes moral behavior and self discipline. I cannot imagine a better set of foundational rules for a society than the ten commandments. Whether you choose to believe in God or Christ the Savior or not, the laws and tenets of Christianity, if followed, will allow the building and maintaining of a culture like we have seen in this country and all its wonderful accomplishments. When those beliefs and laws are ignored and allowed to dissolve, you get the perversions and rampant societal degeneration that you see when you look around you today. A culture of pure self love, no consequences for bad behavior, perverts in the mainstream of society being accepted and even celebrated.

                            A friend of mine said it very well recently- "When you have no moral compass, you cannot help but to wander into the wrong areas of the soul".

                            If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Gov't, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin
                            Sam Adams

                            Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

                              Very interesting topic. I too am convinced that our moral decay is leading us down the wrong path. Turning our collective back on GOD, the garbage on TV that passes for entertainment. Our Goob-mint siding with PLO types over Israel. The list goes on. C S Lewis put it well when he said there are only 2 types of people. Those who say LORD, thy will be done, and those to whom the LORD say's very well have it your way.

                              my 2 cents

                              p.s. I think TEOTEWAWKI is happening right now. Think of how things are no longer the same as when you were a kid.........
                              God does not believe in atheists. Therefore atheists do not exist.
