just something i thought i'd bring up, might not be the right forum but here it goes.
I'll use the roman empire as a quick example. during its decline the majority of roman citizens expected more and more hand outs from the roman empire, people inside the city of rome weren't expected to pay taxes, were given daily rations of grain and meat, and very few served in the roman army. Morals and ethics were quickly declining as well and gluttony was prevelent in its society. They even had eateries were you would eat until you couldn't eat anymore then go to a different room, force yourself to throw up then continue eating. the majority of the actual labor was done by slaves so that the average roman citizen couldn't find a decent job.
now to compare it to america today. people on welfare is at an all time high, unemployment rates are almost at depression level. there seems to be a decay of american values ie Hard work, responsibility, and making something for yourself. People expect opportunities to be given to them, that the government will pay for their health care, and that manual labor is demeaning. More and more companies are setting up their factories in third world countries to cut down on the cost of paying their work force. people who join the us military have become such a minority that it is disgusting. 0.45% of americans have served in the us military during the war on terror. compared to 11% in ww2 and 4.7% in vietnam. of those 0.45% the men and women who have chosen combat mos's are a even smaller minority probably about .10%.
sorry if that rambled but anyone else think that america might be on the downward slide if drastic changes aren't made?
