  • Found a Free Online Bush Class.. you can get a free certificate for it too!

    Hi there everyone,

Found this great site that offers a free Bush Class They'll even give you a certificate upon completion of the course. I have been studying survival stuff for year and am finding that I am learning lots.

I am not trying to pull folks away from this forum, but simply to show folks how they can become Bush Craft Certified.

    This is the site:

The Bush Class thread is found in the top section, or you can click here:

The you want to click on the thread that says "Bushclass Index"... or click here:

There are over 3 1/2 hours of Youtube videos as tutorials, which are great. These are found under the individual lesson topics, by clicking the hyperlink that says, "Lesson"

You participate in the course by documenting your practice of the lesson with either video or digital pictures, then you upload them under the appropriate topic using the hyperlink that says "student practice"

Pretty simple and straight forward... and lots of fun!

Interesting, might take a look and wouldnt mind seeing some feedback from others without any bashing but with honesty.

Bushcraft USA is a great site for a lot of bushcraft info. I've been over there for about 3-4 months after a friend told me about it. The "certification" aspect is one of those things that means more to some people than others. The best part about it is that there's many examples of success on the board, and they encourage real world experience. They have regular community meetings, and the community is large enough so that most areas have doable group exercises in bushcraft.
bad part is that The "certificates" are checklist based. You do X and you are certified, no matter how big of an idiot you are. Not a big problem to me, but it's there. I mainly lurk, and login every now and then to practice tying knots.
They also have a lot of bushcraft related product reviews.

Problem with this approach is the "false confidence" aspect.

Sit around any Campfire at any public gathering of like minded people. Lots of folks will talk about: making soap, canning food, any number of things like that. You ask them about it and it usually moves towards "I have the data on that" type approach- aka I have some crap on a zip drive.

        "Have you done it though?"

        Nope.

That's usually how the convos go. Survivors are going to need more than video and written knowledge. They are going to need EXPERIENCE. That only comes from the hard knocks of getting smacked in the head, getting choked out, getting bruised all to hades doing knife training, sitting freezing and wet in a shelter you thought you built fine but was really half arse, etc.

Experience these things NOW so it's not a super huge new thing to have a gun stuck in your face, or to build a fire with a magnesium firestarter in the dark, etc.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Yeah, I think a lot of people make the mistake of checking a list off, BCUSA doesn't seem to do that as much as other places, but there's still room for armchair commandos.
Thanks for the reminder to keep it real!

True but thats everywhere, gunrange commandos and mall ninjas are rampant and not actually doing is not an issue for me. I watch, read then try, usually fail, then try again and (sigh) so on. I've even posted videos here where i intially failed but kept on till i got it right then continued to practice. I have the zip drive but it's for different reasons and will admit if I havent done it, shoot theres so much i havent learned yet it's not even funny. I am very fortunate that I have found some folks who have knowledge in other areas and are willing to learn and share and most important DO and practice. I'm interested in this stuff, didnt even know so many others were or how much was out there till i got on this forum and saw all the TV stuff that started coming out. This point, you make, is beat into the ground and sometimes i'm like geeze give it a rest and then I see it in action especially with large groups of people who "think" they are not sheeple (recently) but cant really do anything or actually have anything but have regular "meetings" about it and I get back on the soapbox too and it fits the sig line.
