  • Package OPSEC

Well in the members forum I had posted about your packages that you get from your supplier. JRH is named the way it is to help keep your OPSEC and if you order food through them, which ships directly from the Cannery, doesn't have their company name on the box either. So I took it upon myself to send an email to some suppliers asking if they put their company name on their boxes.

Here is the responses that I have got so far:

Thanks for your email. You can always request ‘unmarked boxes’ with us and we will ship your order so the logo is not seen. This secures your privacy. There is no additional fee for this, it is a free service. Thanks.
    Sincerely,
    Scotty

Thank you for your email. We understand your concerns and will be forwarding this on to the proper management to see if this is something they are interested in implementing. If you have any further questions or concerns please let us know and we will be happy to assist you. Thanks!

    Sincerely,
    Shelf Reliance Customer Service Team
Here is what I had sent to the companies:

Do your boxes have company logo/name on them? If they do would you consider removing your name/logo from them so that people that would like to order from you aren't put out on front street that we buy emergency supplies from you. Its none of the delivery persons business who I am buying stuff from. In the event there is an emergency in my home town I don't need a bunch of people showing up at my house thinking they have a right to supplies I have bought for my family.
So before you buy ask them if they will ship in unmarked packages.

Some things are harder to conceal due to packing restrictions. I've thought about the same thing, but sometimes the packages have to have the required markings on them i.e. the ORM-D sticker annotating small arms cartridges.

I'm pretty sure my local Fedex guy is slightly scared coming towards my house from time to time.

@Grand - Unfortunately there are some things that you won't be able to hide. Great example and thanks for commenting!!

      Be diligent in your OPSEC.

Fortunately, pretty much only those in the shooting and shipping communities know what the ORM-D labels are and what they typically signify. They are a generic sticker for flammables and HAZMAT for the most part. But if the person was to be in shipping (like a Fedex or UPS employee) or those folks "in the know" it shines like a bright light. "Ammo is here!" with a big neon Joe's Diner sign on the front porch. Fedex guy knows it's flammable and a pretty heavy package. Probably isn't your typical finger paints for the kindergarten class. Shooters know it's coming from a place called "cheaper than dirt" or "J & G Sales" and has an ORM sticker on it. Either way it adds up.

I'd love to be able to buy my bulk ammo around town, but the mark up from the local shops makes that a more expensive proposition. So I'm still stuck with buying from the net until I find a shop willing to actually sell ammo at respectable prices.

So an OPSEC violation nonetheless. Not getting around certain things.

I wonder if a local FFL person might buy ammo in bulk for you....cheaper than dirt can give you a list of local FFL holders that might help you out...might be worth looking into.
