  • Political rant of the week:

So I typically get up and check the news in the morning (afternoon as I work nights) when I wake up. Grab a cup of coffee and browse through various news sites. And this morning I got quite the treat while reading Fox News. Not unexpected, but...unexpected.

President Obama announced Friday that he is elevating the head of the Small Business Administration to a Cabinet-level position, as he urged Congress to also grant him permission to consolidate that and other federal agencies in an attempt to make government more efficient.
Now, by all means, consolidate and merge. Efficiency is certainly not a word typically associated with "government agencies" so that's kind of a breath of fresh air. However, redundancy is not a foreign word in government speak and there is probably a lot of fat (and I can't even type that without chuckling to myself) in various government agencies, but a blanket authorization to do within the government as the president sees fit?

Umm, no. Can I get "why don't we detail a plan and present it for approval for $1.2 Trillion Alex." (I'll get to that not arbitrary number here in a bit)

Just thinking this is extremely dangerous to give a sitting president, any of them, blanket authorization to reform the government. While it begins with "We can cut up to 3,000 jobs and streamline efficiency by removing redundant agencies" it ends with a really quiet "and we created a whole new department <cough> <cough> with 10,000 new employees <cough> <cough> to manage doodad production and widget trading in the American economy."

That's about how it typically goes. So no thanks.

Now if the President had come up and said "I want to merge federal agencies A, B and C, hack agency D entirely, move department E under department F all of which will save us $5 billion over the next two years, eliminate 4K redundant positions and remove restrictions on businesses and the consumer."

It's called a specific plan and something along those lines is far easier to swallow. Don't ask for blanket authorization to reform the government, just give a specific plan. Don't keep it hidden behind closed doors. Don't surprise anyone. Just let the People know. Something about transparent government? I think I heard that someplace before. No smoke and mirrors, no backdoor deals, no hidden agenda, no politics. Just a specific plan and no blanket authorization to reform the government. Not that I don't trust the president...okay, I don't trust him.

Blanket authorization to reform still requires the Congressional approval on an up and down vote. And with the current track record of going around Congress when he doesn't get his way, this is a dangerous situation to be in. So his plan gets voted down. Surprise executive order puts it in place anyway. And knowing the typical Washington political scene, the measures would have a few hundred riders hidden in the fine print that end up costing us an additional $30 billion over the $3 billion we supposedly saved.

A specific plan. That's about all we the people should be asking...actually demanding from our government.

So I move on in the news, stumble upon this little gem.

President Obama is kicking off 2012 with an uncomfortable but inevitable request -- for Congress to permit another $1.2 trillion increase in the debt ceiling.
Yeah, saw that one coming. We are spending far more than we take in (read the article) and on programs that frankly shouldn't be funded to the extents they are (think welfare, bailouts, larger government and foreign aid). And we need another debt increase.

Imagine that when things like this are going on:

According to a report in The Washington Times, company attorneys have filed a proposal in federal bankruptcy court to hand out bonuses worth between $10,000 and $50,000 to about two dozen Solyndra workers.
So a company that got half a billion dollars in "loans" from the government, goes bankrupt and cannot pay the loan money back and suddenly has enough money (and I would be willing to bet $1.2 trillion I know exactly where that money came from) to give bonuses?

And we need a debt increase because of what reason again? Our government is spending more money that it's taking in and we can't afford to pay our bills yet companies that went bankrupt are giving bonuses to their employees?

Does anyone else see the problem here? And yet, we cannot afford our bills somehow.

Is it just me or am I just being far too cranky and cynical after waking up? But the more coffee I drink, the more I wake up. And the more I wake up, the more I shake my head and like my dog more than some...most politicians.

So we need to cut and streamline certain parts of the government to save money all while raising the government spending limit another trillion or so dollars and while companies use government loan money to give bonuses to their employees as they go bankrupt and never have any intention of paying back the half a billion dollars they wasted in your taxpayer dollars? Let's face it folks, I ain't stretching to connect the dots here.

Yes, I like dogs very much thank you.

So this dear friends and readers. This is the reason you should vote this year. Your should be demanding from your...YOUR representatives in Congress that a stop be put to this madness. We increase the national debt once again, waste more money in government loans that never get paid back, foreign aid for nations that really don't like us very much and generational welfare to recipients who are too lazy to actually find a job and keep popping out more kids to make more "free" taxpayer money all while saving $3 billion over five years by giving the President blanket authority to "reform" the government.

I hope I've made my point clear. It's an important year to vote and let your voice be heard.
Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

Yep I see the problem and no you are not too cranky and cynical. We have a president that is bent on bankrupting this great nation and turning it over to our enemies without firing a shot. We can't afford another 4 years with this guy. If we do we will be at 200% GDP.

And who's the guy who's been warning and educating people on this subject for years?????? Who's the guy who has actually has a record of doing what he says and saying what he does?????? Who's the financial expert at the table????? Oh but, "I don't like his foreign policy... It scares me." WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO HAVE A FOREIGN POLICY!!!!! Oh but, "He's not electable." hmmm... The ONLY candidate who they're afraid of running as an independent BECUASE he would take enough of the vote to guarantee that Obama would be re-elected... So let me get this straight, the only guy who has a such a loyal bunch of supporters that if he ran as an independent would take enough votes from the republicans to guarantee that the democrats would win, is un-electable??? Am I missing something here? If all of the people who say "anyone but Obama" and all of the loyal candidates to the ONLY true liberty minded candidate, would vote together... No way Obama would be re-elected!
        But oh yeah, I forgot, he's un-electable.

Don't mind me, I'm just one of those "crazy" Ron Paul supporters.

Grand, you sound a little bitter, LOL, sounds like me the last several years. My kids have heard me rant so much the now tell me, "Dad, the TV can't hear you".

We need to encourage THE RIGHT people to get out and vote.Beyonce and other are doing their best to get this guy re-elected. We are now at 100+% GDP to debt ratio. We are spending $4 billion more per day than we take in in revenue. Last year we added $1.3 Trillion to our debt, and under this current president we have added $5 Trillion. The people that call themselves "occupy __________" (you fill in the blank) think that Wall Street is the bad guy. Well they have their share of the blame, but I wonder if they realize that Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had ties to Freddie Mac. Then his next CoS William Daley has ties to JP Morgan and now his new CoS Jacob Lew served as a hedge fund manager for CITI that bet on the housing collapse, according to the Huffington post. In fact, he received a $900,000 bonus from CITI after the big bank bailout. Oh, but don't forget...Obama is for the little guy.

Okay, that is enough for now as my B/P cannot get any higher. I'll post some other facts on a different thread later.

Folks, like Grand says GET OUT AND VOTE!!!

One of the things I like the most about this site is the lack of political b.s. If you go to Frugals, that's a large percentage of what's there. I think of it as the "I hate Obama" site. After you've seen that sort of thing several thousand times it gets old. We're keeping this one pretty oriented, which I definitely like. Having said that, I do realize that there are times when you just gotta blow off some steam. I don't like the way things are going, but they (TPTB) haven't stopped by to ask me recently, and I'm not expecting them to any time soon. I basically have the attitude that whoever is REALLY in charge is intent on destroying America, and I need to be ready when that happens. I don't know if they're going to do it by making money worthless, but it sure looks like they're trying hard. Another problem is that I believe the saying that if voting actually changed anything, it would be illegal. We are given bad choices from which to choose, and ultimately, I don't think it really matters. (i.e. don't blame the puppet for the puppet show.) Now, having said THAT, <G> I know I'm going to do what I can to see that every single one of the traitors who voted for the NDAA is voted out of office. Have these people never heard of the constitution? It may involve badgering people to get out and vote, but I'm willing to do it. That's MY political rant for the year. Take it for what it's worth.

Obama doesn't want to be President, he want to be Dictator. There seems to be an entire generation of voters who have absolutely no idea of the reality of economics, who are bent on re-electing him. Anyone listening to the other Democrats and the MSM must believe the everything Obama does is godlike and anyone, anywhere who disagree with him or the party line is an evil racist who want children to starve to death.

My basic naivety is showing when I wonder how politicians, both Democrats and Republicans can look the television camera the eye and voice the party line knowing it's detrimental to the future of the Country. VERY FEW ELECTED OFFICIALS IN WASHINGTON ACTUALLY VOTE TO SUPPORT THE INTEREST OF THE UNITED STATES. Instead, they seem to act like tin solders following orders from their party leaders.

To me, it's heartbreaking to know our children will not inherit the America all of us know and love.

Bearman, I agree we have been given poor choices of politicians to vote into office for several voting cycles. I guess I look at it this way, who will do the least damage to America.

Monkeybird, I feel the same way, I hate that my kids and their children will not have the opportunities that I had growing up.
